Still looking good at the end of week 2 veg, good root system developing. Have been using ice packs to keep temps down in the reservoir, now running between 18 and 26 degrees. Upped nutrients to 2ml per ltr. Will start with cal mag and silicone at the end of wk 3

I'm picking up an ec/ppm meter on Friday, what sort of values should I be looking for in a dwc system to keep it at ideal conditions?

OutForRealanswered grow question 5 years ago
The Ec values should be around 0.5 to 0.6 during week 1 , 2.2 /2.4 week 2 ( 18h of light ) , 2.5/2.7 week 3 , 2.7/3 week 4 (18 h of light ) then after you induce flowering with 12/12 light schedule and you use an Ec between 2.7 and 3.2 until the late flowering and during the 2 last week you use a 1.8 to 2 Ec . In flowering prefer to use 2.8 week 1 then 2/2.5 week 2 and repeat ( 3.0 week 3 and 2.2 week 4 )

End of week 3. Decided to change the feed in the res a day early this week, as it looks like I have a slight calcium deficiency. Added shogun cal-mag and shogun silicon to the feeding schedule. Will see how she goes over the next week. Ordered a cheap ec meter from amazon, arrived yesterday but after I tested it in calibration liquid it wasn't reading correctly and I couldn't see any way of calibrating it. Might have to spend out a bit more on a better one. Edit. Midway through week four now and starting to show signs of going into flower. I have also started foliar feeding with a water/epsom salt mist spray to help with the calcium issue and make sure she has enough magnesium to break it down, 1/4tspn/L mix. More updates at the end of the week Happy growing

I've noticed that my plant is now showing signs of going into flower. Next res change is due Sunday. Should I switch to bloom nutes then, or would you recommend to do it earlier?

The Flowering will take 6-8 weeks, iam sure your plant is ok when she gets blooming nutes a few days after showing flowers.....in my opinion its more important to keep a nice ph and a good solution temperature...

End of week 4. Happy with the last weeks growth, she has more than doubled in size and now showing signs of pre flower. Seem to have sorted the deficiencies from week 3, possibly a bit of nitrogen toxicity, but I have switched to bloom nutes today lowering the nitrogen ratio. Also done a small amount of defoliation to get more air flow and light to the main bud sites. Fingers crossed she will produce some nice fat potent buds! Happy growing 🌿

End of week 5. All looking good, had some good growth this week hoping she doesn't stretch to much more as I'm now at maximum height with my light. Topping up 2l a day, she is feeding well and ph has been nice and stable. Upped the feed a little this week to see how she takes it. Looking forward to watching her filling out with some fat buds now! Happy growing 🌿

End of week 6. Zkittles auto still looking nice and healthy throughout the last week. Ph nice and stable no major fluctuations. Nice to see the buds starting to form all over the different bud sites. Dropped the base nutes by 1ml per l this week and added pk warrior and sumo active boost. Also some advanced nutrients big bud and bud candy for some carb loading. We will see how she takes to it over the next week. Happy growing 🌿

End of week 7. Not much to report over the last week, she is taking all the extra supplements well and the buds seem to be fattening up nicely, forming lots of frosty crystals❄️. Nice solid stems to hold them up, ph good. I will stick to the same feed schedule now until flush in a few weeks. Until next week. Happy growing🌿

End of week 8. Come across some issues this week, possibly a phosphorus deficiency from what I can tell, could also be light stress but I've taken the base nutes back up to 4ml per L and added an extra 1ml per L of pk booster (now up to 2ml per L) So I will see how she goes this week hopefully I will see an improvement over the next 7 days. Should only be another 3 or 4 weeks max to harvest so hopefully see some more swell on the buds. I will flush for 7-10 days with advanced nutrients flawless finish. Until next week, happy growing 🌿

End of week 9. Still seeing some issues, looks like I may have had a bit of lockout maybe from running too much feed etc especially with the humidity running so low. Dropped the nutes right down this week so will hopefully see an improvement, I think about 3 weeks to go so I will start a flush with about 10 days or so remaining. She's smelling real nice now, hoping for a final big swell before harvest. Until next week, happy growing 🌿

End of week 10. The flush. Decided to start the flush today for the last 2 weeks. I have struggled with some sort of deficiency or lockout over the last fortnight that I have been battling with, hopefully going to flush any excess nutes out and get a final swell out of her before harvest. She looks like she will go bang on 12 weeks, trichs are clear/cloudy with one or two Amber's floating about. Here's to a good crop 🤙 Happy growing 🌿

Down to the last week now. A few mistakes made along the way, noted for the next attempt. Lighting and overfeeding 2 issues to name a few, couldn't seem to pull it back from some sort of ph lockout before flush. Hoping to have a decent crop but not really sure. Buds look nice and feel dense but I know they are going to shrink when drying. Happy growing people 🌿

Buds look lovely and dense, hopefully they will still be the same when dried! Did have a potassium issue over the last few weeks which I think affected yeild. Nice wet weight but will have to wait and see what the cured weight is. Will report back on the smoke and dry weight after curing in a week or so, does smell lovely and fruity though! 🌿🌿Did sneak a cheeky little test bud so will fill in what I can and report back after a full cure!

This was a lovely strain to grow, really good genetics and nice strong stems. Grew fast and strong in the early staged with nice uniform growth, next time I would look at more LST, or even topping as she grew fairly tall. I think it would have yielded alot more if it wasn't for my inexperience and overfeeding! Hey ho all a learning experience for the next run! All. In all it was good fun and a great learning experience running DWC, it will be my setup of choice for the foreseeable future! 🌿🌿

Even automatics are very sensitive to nutrition... they tend to want less nutrients than photoperiods ( their lifespace is much shorter. So iam sur your plant is ok , in having the blooming nutes later... greetings and happy growing

Greetings @Mrs_Larimar, thanks for the reply. I will change the feed in the res on my usual schedule and just keep an eye on the pH and res temps until then. Not so bad now the weather has cooled, between 18 and 23 mostly and ph 6.0 when I checked last night. Thanks for the help and happy growing 🌿

@TheBudWhisperer, 100% bro I will let you know as soon as the new diary is up! I think I'll pop the seeds when I hang this one to dry, should be ready to go straight into the pot at around 10 days then. Fingers crossed for some good weight on this one, I'll be watching yours closely for a comparison! 🌿🤙

@Green_T, I’d say Mine is a solid 2 weeks behind yours Based on the colouring. She’s fade’n real nice dude👌. As for the next run - GSC is always a good option IMO. I’ve done a couple of crosses of it and have a sapphire scout from HSO come’n up myself. Let me know when u get it up, I’d def. like to put a follow on that👍

Midway through week 3, showing some signs of a calcium deficiency. Ordered shogun cal-mag and silicon which should hopefully be here tomorrow and sort the issue

Firstly EC should not be over 2.2 in DWC , 2.2 EC = 1100 ppm start at 1.3 go up to 2.2 in third week of flower reducing in 5 th week and 6th week Secondly You should really start flower nutes slightly before they flower Third - I never had perfect results using AN in DWC , but in soil they were fantastic

@BigDaddyK, thanks for the feedback 👍 I will make sure to take it on board with my next attempt, just started a new diary running the same strain so will hopefully get better results. I will pick up a new ec meter next week, the last one I bought was cheap and so out of whack it wasn't worth using. I'm going to leave the AN out this time and just run with shogun and see how it goes. 👍 👍

This is a great comparative for me dude and thanks for reaching out. Interesting that she moved in to flower so quickly. Mine did the same and it says a lot about why there was limited growth on mine in the first couple weeks. If she moves to flower this quick as a strain then I simply had my seedling set too high in the basket. Cant wait to run another one and correct some things. Grows lookn fantastic bro - she’ll be a giver for sure!👍😎👌

@TheBudWhisperer, I haven't tried soiless mediums, it was a toss up between that and DWC. Opted for the dwc as it seemed the cheaper option to get started, and like you say the reduced maintenence is great especially compared to soil! I did notice a few patchy leaves on mine last night, looks like a possible phosphorus deficiency but the pH had run a bit low too. Adjusted and seems stable now but I'll up the pk booster on the weekend and see if that helps. Tbh It's all a bit of guesswork and probably luck that I haven't had more issues! Hope you get your problems sorted and get a nice little smoke, All good experience for the next run! 🌿👍
TheBudWhisperer
TheBudWhisperercommented5 years ago
@Green_T, given how well she’s doing I can appreciate that you’d stick with it. That said, I’m not big on soil (unless it’s outdoor obviously) but I am huge fan of coco and soilless mediums. Similar growth rates to hydro but the same general process as soil/conventional grows. Im Hoping that my next dwc run will have the kinks ironed out because I love the reduced maintenance that hydro allows for👍
Green_T
Green_Tcommented5 years ago
@TheBudWhisperer, yeh I thought it would be a cool comparison as they are so close. I think it is genetics that makes them switch so early from what I have seen, I did put mine quite far down in the pot to start. I will post a pic of the roots later when I get home, the tap root is coming straight out of the bottom of the pot! This is my first attempt at DWC and so far 100% better results than my 2 previous soil attempts, I will defo be sticking to this method from now on! Fingers crossed for a good crop, probably only a few weeks before it's time to flush. Good luck with the rest of your grow, she's looking good I'll look forward to the updates 🌿👍

looks like N deficiency (yellowing of the older leafs first) and pH fluctuations causing the burns. i m not super sure though, hope this helps! 🚀
Green_T
Green_Tcommented5 years ago
@CRiSPrGrow, I think it was a calcium deficiency. Adding some cal-mag and foliar feeding with some epsom salts seems to have cured it fingers crossed. The pH hasn't fluctuated massively throughout the grow so far it has been pretty steady, I try to check it as often as possible. Thanks for the input though always appreciated👍
