10/2:
My soil mix was too hot and I accidentally killed 11 of the 12 Fastbuds seedlings I had going. So, I started about 20 Candy Cane hybrids in rapid rooters wetted with myco, tricho, and beneficial bacteria. All but one popped up. One of them did a cobra-basket and petered out.
The beans all came from tray trash that accumulated while I was smoking three diff strains, so I probably won't know what they are until they are flowering.
10/4:
Looks like I'll have enough growing that I have to cull the weakest few. I can feasibly (possibly) squeeze 14 into the lower section of the closet under 720w if they act right and if I do some training, and another 4 in the top under 200w if I keep them at 30" or less in height.
10/6:
I think I'll veg everybody in the bottom section until I'm out of space, then move the shorter 4 or maybe 5 into the top section as necessary...and move the tiniest ones outdoors to finish. I just don't have the heart to kill anything that's got a potential yield of a half-ounce or more. Some of the most diminutive plants I've grown produced the stankiest buds..
I've currently got the 200w 3500k+660nm running at about 32" in the middle of the closet, and one of the 3 pairs of 120w 3000k+660nm quantum boards running at about 36" and should be sufficient coverage for the next week or so. Then I'll kick on the pair of boards closest to the doorway and spread them out a bit..and then I'll move the 200w light to the top section along with the best 4 short plants. At that point I'll turn on the center 2 qb's and install a 2 foot Solacure Flower Power UV light in the perpendicular center channel of my frame.
10/7:
I installed my new AC Infinity 6" fan in the attic and hooked up a 16" carbon filter today. I used some sound deadening foam on the rafter that I mounted it to and removed 100% of the vibration. I haven't programmed the thermo/hygro stuff yet, but tested it on high and I can't hear a thing anywhere in the structure.👍
I'm also purchasing a dual 120mm fan system from AC Infinity in the door, behind the grille I already installed to serve as fresh air intake. It also has a thermostat feature that will allow me to set it to only come on when the temps are too high, so I'm optimistic that it will allow me to manage the temperatures in this closet with about 1000w running for 18-20 hours a day.🙏
I moved the 200w 3500k+660nm to the top section today and lowered my QB frame to 32" above the plants. I have two pairs of them running now, and received the replacement HLG 240-48A driver today for the third pair. I'll hook it up later..dont need it now..
10/8:
I fed most of them today for the first time...about 16 oz of solution containing grow big, big bloom, kelp me kelp you, boomerang, and armor si.
I hooked up the 3rd pair of qb's today....wow that's bright....they're gonna love it!😎
The last of the sprouts has been planted and is growing. That's a total of 19.... 3 of them still in 1 liter pots and getting plain distilled water.
I also foliar fed all of them with a little big bloom and kelp me kelp you.
10/9:
I got some Axiom to apply onto them tomorrow. It's got a good amount of Harpin a|b proteins which trigger rapid plant growth and other defensive traits that are proven to be canna-friendly, like enhanced resin production and increased resistance to molds, mildews, and fungi.
I foliar fed them today with big bloom kelp me kelp you, and the day following the Axiom application I plan to foliar feed them with Biotabs BoomBoom Spray to negate any initial ill-effects caused by the Axiom. I'll probably just mist them with distilled water for a day or two following that regimen to ensure that it's all rinsed off. But, following that break in the foliar feeding routine, I've got some Fulvic/Humic acid to rain gently over them for a couple of days.
10/11:
End of week 1, and I'm happy with their progress thus far.😀
They had no trouble with the "Harpin protein attack" I engaged them with yesterday... at all, and even look quite a bit bigger than I expected. They also had their first "night time* last night...4 blissful hours in 74f temps with 48%RH.💤
10/12:
They're looking great! I just gave them a little spring water today since they're getting compost tea tomorrow.
I transplanted two of the smallest ones into 3 gallon pots today, so there's just one left..and it seems stunted. I also turned on the 3rd set of quantum boards today.
10/13:
I fed them all about 16 ounces each of compost tea today. I had brewed 5 gallons of tea using 90% rainwater collected the day before, and 10% aquarium water. My tea contained about 2 cups of very rich compost a handful of biochar, a tablespoon of 7 diff species of endo-mycorrhizal fungi + 25 species of beneficial bacteria, 8 tablespoons of big bloom (mainly for the earthworm castings), 2 tablespoons of liquid molasses, and a tablespoon of kelp me kelp you. It had been brewing for 48 hours and was very frothy.
10/14:
WIth so much light and airflow, they are drying out very quickly.
I fed them about a third-gallon each of water with grow big, big bloom, kelp me kelp you, boomerang, cal-mag+iron, armor si, and soluble humic acid.
I also foliar fed them a few times with humic acid and big bloom.
I'm seeing signs of calcium deficiency on a few plants today, but the tea should correct that. I'll add cal/mag to the watering regimen anyway.
10/15:
I foliar fed with big bloom and a little kelp a few times today, and douched everybody with about 16 ounces of Ph adjusted tap water with a strong dose of cal-mag.
10/16:
I fed everybody about a quarter-gallon containing all the good stuff, at full strength for the first time. I also misted everybody really well with Ph adjusted spring water a few times throughout the day, just to rinse off any built-up nutes. None of the new growth shows any signs of calcium deficiency, but I dosed them heavy with cal-mag again with this feeding.
I did some leaf-tucking today, but have decided not to FIM anybody. Since I've overplanted, I really don't want to increase their individual footprints at all.
It's starting to get colder outside at night now, so I peeled back the insulation in the attic, above the closet, and my temps are even more manageable. Very optimistic now about running the additional 200w grow light in the space above the main area!👌
10/17:
I see a lot of overnight growth today. 👍
I sprayed everybody down with Ph adjusted tap water a few more times and rearranged the garden a little bit.
10/18:
Week 2 is ending well. Very happy with their growth this week!👍
Today, I did a myco root drench, with a little added boomerang for all the aminos, vitamins, and earthworm castings.
I soaked everybody thoroughly with about 3/4 gallon each and let them sit in their trays to soak it all up. I'll let them go completely dry before I feed them again so that they really drink it all in next time.
I lowered the lights to 21 inches above the tallest plants right at dark, so they'll wake up to an especially bright sunshiny day!
I potted up the last seedling today in a 3 gallon pot...that's 19 plants in 14.5 square feet of available lower garden area!
15 that are turning 3 weeks old tonight, 1 that's turning 2 weeks old, and the 2 babies, which are turning 1 week old today...(Happy Sproutday!)
That can't work for much longer.. especially since they are surprisingly staying shorter and branching more than I expected with the 3000k+660nm's. Maybe something to do with the first week and a half they were under 3500k+660nm. Rather than growing taller early on, they are branching like crazy. This, too, could present a problem with such limited space.
The top section is roughly 8 more square feet (2.5 feet x 3.5 feet) of available garden area, with about 3 square feet currently taken by the evaporative cooler and the carousel I have it sitting on. I'm considering trying to run the whole op without the evaporative cooler in the top section so that I can fit a couple more plants under the 200w.
But that's gonna be very tough to keep cool if it doesn't hurry up and become wintertime where I live...
...or maybe I'll just devote the top area to my Stardawg and the runtiest two hybrids and keep the cooler running..
What to do, what to do....👈
10/19:
This morning when I opened up the closet I wanted to rearrange a little, but they were so packed in, it was almost impossible. So, I went up in the attic and ran some cables and hooked up my other 200w light in the top section. I moved the 4 smallest plants up there and it created a little bit of desperately needed space in the lower section...but I still doubt very seriously that I'll be able to grow all 15 to completion in there..it's only 14.5 square feet of space!😳
10/20:
I foliar fed everybody with some SP-90 humic/fulvic acid and kelp me kelp you today. They will probably get fed again tomorrow. Drying out quickly-
10/21:
I applied Axiom again today..I sprayed a whole liter of the finest mist I could produce..tops and bottoms of all leaves to the point of runoff.
I fixed up a 5 gallon batch of nutes and fed everybody about a 1/4 gallon each.
Later the same day....
Several of them look very overwatered..and it's mainly the plants in the back in fabric pots that have seen a grow or two. I think my pots are mainly just too close together for airflow to dry the bottoms out well enough.
I put another big fan in the closet and turned off the evap cooler for the night.
10/22:
Most of them look better this morning, but a few are still droopy, so I used a stainless steel skewer to poke a thousand little holes in the lower part of all the fabric pots in the garden to try and improve oxygen availability to the roots. I also carefully arranged the garden so that there are gaps between all the pots. I think I'll also space my waterings a little further apart. The topsoil is drying out well enough, but I don't want their roots sitting in muck.
10/23:
Several of them are flowering now, and starting to stretch a little bit.
I raised the lights about 2 inches today and dialed the ac infinity's high temp trigger up to 88f for a bit to get them to dry out a little faster, so the RH climbed a little higher as well...so I also set the ac infinity's high humidity trigger threshold to 65%.
After observing signs of nitrogen toxicity on several of them, I realized that I made another rookie mistake...(where is my head??)
The new 5 gallon bucket I'm using to mix a batch of nutes must be about 2 inches shorter than the one I had been using, and I never bothered to calibrate it....which I did today. So, for the past couple of feedings, I've been mixing in enough nutes for 5 gallons, but in only 4 gallons of water!!!
I foliar fed them with BoomBoom Spray and gave them about 8oz each of boomerang and cal-mag early in the morning, and by 5pm they all looked happier. I'll give them a little drink of plain water tomorrow, then start them on flowering nutes the next day.
10/24:
Several are starting to stretch now...and all but one are flowering.
This morning I fed them another little dose of boomerang and cal-mag, and also added some bembe and open sesame to the mix.
This afternoon, I foliar fed everybody very thoroughly with some humic/fulvic acid, seaweed extract, yucca extract, and big bloom (for the earthworm castings and minor and trace elements)
I repotted the dwarf in a smaller container and gave it to my son. He's a bonsai enthusiast, so it's right up his alley...that's one less plant to deal with!
10/25:
This evening I mixed up 5 gallons of pretty much everything except grow big. and gave everybody about 1/4 gallon each. I plan to flush them with sledgehammer on Sunday or Monday and only do foliar feedings like BoomBoom spray and fulvic acid until I resume normal bloom feeding mid-week.
Because I've had such a good veg, I'm pretty sure the maximum number of plants I'll be able to fit into the lower section is 13...and maybe only 12. So, that will be my 4 or 5 shortest plants in the area above..in which case, I'll need more light...
I think the new UVB light will have to wait until my next grow because I've got so spend a couple hundred bucks on seeds to be able to start another batch right before my current run finishes.😖😞😩😡
10/26:
All but one are flowering now, and most are stretching. There are a few shorter ones, thankfully, so they'll get moved up to the top of the closet in another day or two and I'll have a little more room for the big girls to spread out a little bit.
10/27:
I rearranged the garden a little bit today and checked whether they needed water or not. I foliar fed with Big Bloom and a little Tiger Bloom today.
I'm seeing signs of potassium deficiency on several of them.
10/28:
I watered everybody with about 1/4 gallon and included a little terpinator, cal-mag, bembe, and beastie bloomz.
I uploaded a couple of photos showing some weird curling of the newest growth...just an odd varietal trait I think because I've seen it before on my Candy Cane F2's.
10/29:
I rotated everybody on the edges and plucked some older, lower leaves. They are damn near totally dry, so flushing tomorrow.
10/30:
I decided not to flush based partly on how shitty the weather is right now...and partly because I'm seeing some N deficiency signs in several plants and really can't afford to put off feeding them again until they dry after a 3-gallon flush. So, instead, I thoroughly watered everybody with about 3/4 gallon including cal-mag, myco/tricho, beneficial bacteria, humic acid, bembe, and terpinator. I let them sit in their catchment trays long enough to soak all the run-off back up, so they are fairly well saturated now with things that should make the roots really happy. I've added another oscillating fan and got the hygrostat set to kick on the exhaust whenever the humidity reaches 55%, so it's pretty much staying on right now. Hopefully they are dried back out by Friday so I can give them a last good dose of N to help with their stretch. I'll also start going heavy with P and K, and increase terpenoid and flavonoid enhancers.
I'm gonna give Signal by True a try when I finish my current bottle of Terpinator. I just can't bring myself to keep paying over $60/gallon when I can get a gallon of Signal for under $40.
While watering today, I emptied the closet completely and had plants all over the place...my cats were in heaven..stalking each other under the jungle canopy.😺 It really does amaze me that I'm fitting all these plants into such a small space..😳
10/31:
I rotated the edge plants and checked their moisture level. I'll feed them tomorrow.
11/1:
I took everybody out of the closet and did a little defoliating. I fed everybody with about a half-gallon including all the good stuff.
11/2:
I took everybody out of the garden and did some defoliating and sprayed them with boom boom spray and a little tiger bloom for the last time.
In addition the potassium deficiency, it looks like several of them have a copper deficiency as well. I'm gonna re-calibrate my Ph meter...thinking it's off.
I super-cropped the tallest 5 plants to try and keep the canopy more even, and spent about a half hour training the 4 plants in the upper chamber
11/3:
The 5 plants whose tallest branches I super-cropped turned upwards and are doing their thing again. At least 3 more plants need the same treatment now..stretching like crazy.
They are dry..watering in the morning.
11/4:
I sprinkled a tablespoon of Cavern Culture (bat and seabird guano) onto all of them and watered it in with about 1/2 gallon each, including myco/tricho/beneficial bacteria, humic acid, bembe, terpinator, and cal-mag.
I also did some more super-cropping and training on them today. I can't really spread the branches out too much, as I have no space at all to work with, but I managed to get light to more of the lower branches, so that's a win.
Tomorrow I'm gonna transplant the one with the curly leaves into a 5 gallon pot and check out whatever's going on with her roots.
The extremely curly-leaved plant...ugh...I'd say she's really "sickly", but she's big and bushy and still blooming like crazy....😕
It's like she hates being watered. I've ensured that there are hundreds of little holes in the sides and bottom of her pot and have a half inch airspace beneath it. During the afternoon, I've been leaving the closet door partially open and an industrial fan blowing across the pots to try to get more oxygen to their roots. All, but Curly Sue are doing fine. I'm hoping that maybe a transplant into a 5 gallon pot of perlite-heavy soil mix (roots dusted with myco) will make her straighten out and fly right. I'll water her into the new pot with boomerang and maybe spray her with boom boom spray. Biotabs swears by it as a shock-reducing transplant foliar feed....we'll see. I really hate transplanting when they are this far into flower, but I really don't want her to peter-out before she can finish. Of all the plants, she has the weakest stalk and branches, so...😷
11/5:
I transplanted "Curly Sue" into a 5 gallon pot today and watered her in with myco, humic acid, boomerang, and bembe. Fingers crossed....
I removed the oscillating fan from above my lighting so that I could raise the lights several more inches, and added another oscillating fan above the lights that blows down on the plants.
The one I removed is still up there too, but blowing across the LED drivers and a pair of the panels. I could still remove the ratchet hangers and just use carabiners to attach the fixture to the "ceiling" of the closet....that would give me another 5 inches of possible ceiling if I end up needing it.
11/6:
I fed everybody about 1/3 gallon today, and went heavy on phosphorous..a heavy dose of tiger bloom, along with a normal dose of beastie bloomz, bembe, cal-mag, signal, big bloom, and a 1/3 dose of grow big. It's been raining for 24 hours and the humidity is off the charts, so I dialed up the ac infinity to come on any time it exceeds 55% RH and increased the fan speed on the floor of the closet to try and dry them out quicker than usual.
11/7:
Did pretty much nothing to the bigger plants in the bottom today and only did a little training to two of the shorter ones in the top section.
11/8:
I collected a bunch of rainwater over the past 48 hours and gave everybody about 1/3 gallon including cal-mag, signal, bembe, armor si, and a little bit of tiger bloom..still seeing some signs of phosphorous deficiency here and there. I took a bunch of photos and video while I had some of them out of the closet. 😍
Curly Sue continues to bud up, but she's still curly as hell. No way the old growth will correct itself, but I was hoping to see a few new sugar leaves be straighter than the rest..
11/9:
I took some photos and added a 35w 3500k LED to the top section and have it pointed towards the backside of one of them and my little Stardawggy.
11/10:
Today, I super-cropped about 10 different mains and branches on various plants. The canopy is now much more even.
They'll be ready for a feeding tomorrow.
11/11:
I fed them all about 1/3 gallon each with big bloom, tiger bloom, beastie bloomz, cal-mag, bembe, humic acid concentrate, myco/tricho, signal, and a little grow big.
11/12:
I spent a couple of hours tying down branches and tucking leaves to get more light down into some of the plants, and rotated the edge plants.
11/13:
I rotated the edge plants and added a TNB Naturals CO2 enhancer to the closet. I raised the thermostat on the ac infinity to 86f, so as not to exhaust it all, but with the cold air intake, it's rarely even coming on anyway.👍
11/14:
Their buds are swelling up nicely! I fed them again today because I'm still seeing some signs of potassium and phosphorus deficiencies. I went 1/2 strength with the grow big, but full strength with everything else...
11/15:
Last day of week 6 and I'm happy with their progress. I plucked off the dead shit and tried to reposition some of the lower branches to get more light. Took some photos and shot some budporn video..sexy ladies!😍
11/16:
A few of them are in a bigger hurry than the others, and that's just fine by me....very tired of buying weed to smoke..
I fed them again today with about 1/2 gallon each and put a couple of 24w 3000k bar lights under the canopy to increase light to the lower branches. I also took some photos and a video.
11/17:
A few of them are protesting about their proximity to the lights, so I raised them as high as possible, which was only another 4 inches. Hopefully that's enough!
11/18:
I checked their moisture levels and rotated the edge plants.
11/19:
I watered them today with about 1/2 gallon including bembe, signal, cal-mag, myco, and started them on cha ching. At least one of them will get flushed for the first time at their next feeding. Already fading...
11/20:
I rotated some edge plants and started decreasing humidity in the closet. I set the AC Infinity to come on whenever it gets up to 45% RH., plus the new dehumidifier I ordered will be here tomorrow.
11/21:
I fed them today with about a half-gallon each. I started cutting back on everything except cal-mag, bembe, signal, and cha ching.
11/23:
I flushed 5 of them for the first time today with 5 gallons each of very warm filtered water and florakleen:
3 x Candesia F1's (Candy Cane x Amnesia Auto) and 3 x Candy Cane F2's
I fed everybody else with about a half gallon including bembe, signal, cal-mag, humic acid, big bloom, and cha ching.
11/24:
I took some photos and rotated the edge plants. Humidity is higher than I'd like at this stage due to the saturated plants in the garden. I increased airflow considerably all day with a commercial fan.
11/25:
I rotated the edge plants and moved the fans around a little bit.
11/26:
I flushed the first 5 again today for the second time with 5 gallons of filtered water and florakleen. I flushed 5 more of them for the first time today, and fed the other 8 with a 1/2 gallon each containing bembe, cal-mag, signal, big bloom, tiger bloom, and cha ching.
11/27:
I just took some photos today..making any contact with them at this point reeks up the whole house, and I'm almost out of Angry Orange..
11/28:
It looks like I'll be harvesting the first 5 tomorrow! The second batch will be flushed for a second time, and I'll flush the remaining 8 for the first time.
11/30:
I harvested the first 6 today, flushed 5 more for the second time, and fed everybody else for the last time.
I washed all the branches using the 4-step method ascribed by Doc Bud at High Times/420magazine and many other notable cannabis connoisseurs, with slight modifications:
4 x big plastic totes/bins
8 x ounces of 12% hydrogen peroxide (or 32 ounces of 3%)
2 x cups of concentrated lemon juice
2 x cups of baking soda
10 x gallons of water in each bin
Unless your tap water stinks, you're safe to use tap water for the procedure, but I used an inline carbon hose filter to fill my buckets.
Bin #1 - 10 gallons of water mixed with the hydrogen peroxide
Bin #2 - 10 gallons of water mixed with the lemon juice and baking soda
Bin #3 - 10 gallons of water as hot tap water
Bin #4 - 10 gallons of cold tap water
I was mainly concerned about removing as much lint and cat/dog hair as possible, but also rinsing off any residue left from all the various foliar applications of humic/fulvic acid, kelp, axiom, big bloom, and tiger bloom I did. First, I put my leaf blower on low speed and blasted my plants thoroughly, one at a time, replicating 50-60mph winds for about 10 seconds and watched as a whirlwind of debris and hair flew out the back door.
Bud-washing:
Pluck any necrotic plant material and any old fan leaves off while they're still on the plant. Then, take a handful of branches and submerge them in Bin #1 for about 30 seconds, agitating it, removing from water, submerging again, agitating, etc...then remove it and let it drip out for a few seconds...then repeat the process with Bins #2-4. Let it drip dry overnight with a little bit of airflow, then dry as you normally would...baskets, boxes, etc..
I hadn't watered these plants in a few days, so they were almost in draught, but after doing this procedure, they were fully hydrated(turgid) and seemed to have brighter colors than before. Nice!😍
12/1:
The bottom part of the closet seems empty with only 9 plants in there.. 😟
I cut the harvested plants up and put them into drying baskets in the top of my closet with a small oscillating fan on. I've got the temperature fluctuating between 68f and 75f and the RH is staying between 48% and 52%.
To do that, I had to take down the small light in the top of the closet to fit the drying baskets up there. So, I moved the 3 shorter plants still up there down to the bottom and put them on top of buckets. Now the bottom of the closet looks full again!😃
I'm anxious to finish up this grow so I can get busy growing the Fastbuds Fast Flowering Photo Testers!!! When I harvest the next 5, I'll flush the remaining plants really well and that will be all the flushing they'll get..I'll let them dry back out for a few days and harvest them. I've got to make some minor improvements to the garden (adding UV, blue and red/far red booster panels and intake fans) That should put me on track to start germinating them by mid-December if all goes well.
12/3:
...early a.m...
The harvested plants are already dry!?!?? And have excellent texture??? Wow..bud washing is for real..roughly 48 hours after I hung them to drip dry, and 40 hours after I put them in baskets in 50% RH/70f conditions with moderate airflow...usually takes 4 or 5 days to get a good slow-dry in the same conditions, so I'm convinced that this must be attributed to the bud-washing procedure. I'm sold!
Here's the talley so far:
plant #1 - 115g (plus 13g larf) - Candy Cane [F2]
plant #2 - 108g (plus 18g larf) - Candy Cane [F2]
plant #3 - 119g (plus 15g larf) - C4ndycaine [Candy Cane x C4]
plant #4 - 92g (plus 6g larf) - Candy Cane [F2] - the smallest plant in the main area

Happy Harvest Day!
Candy Cane x Amnesia Auto - Custom Breeder & Strain
I thought I just had two of this strain, but it turns out that the 134g plant was actually a C4 hybrid!
It isn't as pungent smelling as the others, but seems to have it's own unique flavor going on. I like it!
115g - C4ndycaine [Candy Cane x C4]
134g - C4ndycaine [Candy Cane x C4]
151g - C4ndycaine [Candy Cane x C4]
TOTAL: 400g 👍
