Hello and welcome to an early addition of the Do-Si-Dos Diary. I am doing this early (Veg, Week 9 (Day 60)) because I have to flip. I do not feel I have a choice. I was looking to mid week to end week 10, but I have lost control of the growth rate of two of them. One, the B.C and the other NL #2. They both gained, roughly, 5-6 inches in 4 days.... (since Tuesday, my last update) and have surpassed my flipping mark by an inch. They have to go to flower as I'm pretty unsure on how the stretch is going to go. Fingers crossed I don't exceed 60% or I may be in trouble. These are officially the last pictures of DSD before the flip tonight, 9pm, Dec 11th, 2020. Updates will now be posted every Saturday/Sunday from here on out. Pictures include a new silica base supplement that will be added to the schedule next feed, the 3M non-residue duct tape I use to mitigate light leaks and how I apply this tape. Lastly, since this is a rushed update, I will pretty much just be copy and pasting this info between diaries. So if you read the log here, there's no need to read the others. It will essentially be the same info but with their strain name subbed in. Any differences or additional notes will be noted in "Notes of the week" Thank you! Notes of the past 4 days: -Except for DSD, all plants are now hovering at the 23-24" mark (60cm) excluding the pot. My trigger was going to be 75cm (planned awhile ago), but with recent growth spurts I see I can't afford to risk it. 60cm became my new mark. -I highly recommend 3M, Non-Residue duct tape if you ever feel paranoid about light leaks. My tent still isn't really broken in yet, so the dual zipper flaps do allow light in and out. I use this tape to cover the zipper track so nothing can get in or out. Advertised no residue if applied for no more then 6 months. I have only had it applied for 4.5 months, but when I took it off there wasn't a single spec of glue or residue. This stuff is expensive, but for me and my concerns, it's wholly worth it. It doesn't stick as well as normal duct tape because the glue is weaker, but it does the job and can be removed/re-applied anytime without a problem.πŸ‘ -Potassium Silicate supplement "Sturdy Stock" by Emerald Harvest will be introduced into the feeding schedule next feed. This should have been in the regiment from the get-go but I actually had no idea about it. Once again, a great acquaintance on this site has directed me to pick some up and give her a go. Had no idea what this was or that it could help the cell structure of my plants to better carry their flower weight. Will be starting low and slow with this (half dose start) to see how the girls react to yet another addition to their feed. -Re-commissioned the 240Watt Blurple LED. It is now hung further in the back to help supplement any light in 'dead (er)' spots in the tent that the SF-2000 cannot reach (3x3 footprint in 4x4 tent). Activated yesterday to ensure it wasn't too much for the girls and they were fine. I figure by Flowering Week 2, the blurple will be on for the entire day period along side the SF. -Second Titan Digital Timer has been programmed to operate during the night cycle. This will turn on a small ceramic heater and 32 Watt heat mat to keep temperatures @ optimal levels. I don't want this heater or mat to operate during the day cycle as the power draw and heat is too high. Never will both lights and the heaters work at the same time for fear of tripping the breaker. The lights give off the adequate heat I need in the day so there is no use for the ceramic heater and mat anyway. If heat gets to high in the night cycle, the intake and outtake are mechanically interlocked to trigger at 21-22 degrees to disperse that excess heat and/or humidity and will continue to cycle as needed (roughly 2-3 times an hour it seems). Inline variable motor speed controls are inline with both the intake and outtake as well. When triggered the tent pressure is balanced so it does not puff out or suck in during the fresh air cycle. Trial and error to get that balance, but well worth it. -Last feed and full prune with a very small amount of defo (2 plants, 4 fans each) has been completed 3 days ago. The girls have fully recovered with no signs of stress (anymore) and this is another reason I feel it's appropriate to flip when they're in such a healthy and vigorous state. When pruning, for the first time, DSD and NL #2 actually did react negatively to the cuts and the subsequent feeding afterwards. I have pruned and watered before but they had never done this. B.C and NL #1 did not react at all with the same treatment.... Anywho, DSD and NL #2 were pretty pissed at me for a bit and it took about 6-8 hours for them to come back to full health (They dipped right out after the cuts and feed. Just super un-happy with me). I apologized profusely to them. I didn't think this was going to harm them as much as I projected it would. Sorry girls, but thank you for coming back and recoveringπŸ‘ I think that's it (?). I genuinely ask for well wishes during this flip! I'm excited but also nervous on how this flowering period will go, especially considering it's my first indoor-winter grow and that has thrown a lot of sticks in my spokes, lots of trial and error. Any suggestions or comments, please let me know as soon as possible in the thread or through PM. This would be greatly appreciated and constructive criticism is welcome (I mean that). Happy grows and good luck to you all this week with the girls. I shall see you again on January 17th/18th for "End Week 1 Flower". Cheers my friends.βœŠπŸ˜‰

Need advice as soon as possible. Please see last few pictures of DoSiDos week 3. Am I looking at mottling here? Soil ph maladjusted? Please help if you've seen this before, and what steps do it take moving forward (or am I paranoid, IDK). Thank you!

@Ga4rd2en0er, You and I and others seem to agreeπŸ‘. Some stunning LST and form in the grows I see on here. I like when it goes beyond product, alone. The plant is beautiful and it's fun to help bring that out. πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘

@JinksyGrows, I guess I'm a design nerd, I love designing new systems to grow in and when a design fails or is performing poorly, I love the challenges of fine tuning or redesign. 2nd favorite is flowering time watching the ladies mature and develop their wonderful aroma. My least favorite is harvest day. My hands cramp easily from trimming 😊, the disinfecting and clean up.

@OutForReal, Haha, to each their own. I do love the colors and form come end game😊. But the time I get to spend with them on veg is almost meditative for me and it's a super peaceful time. Thanks for dropping by Spinner and for all the love on the grows! Greatly appreciated. Cheers my friend! Happy grows

@OutForReal, So, long story short I picked DSD for its name, lol! How can I pass by a strain called do-si-dos, what a cool name! So, I came on here and found 2 DSD grows using the same genetics from seed bank (i49). I didn't trust the breeders projected 29% and asked them to verify if they tested (an indie Dom that high, can it be?). Anyways, it be, hahaha. One user pulled a beauty harvest at 31%!!! Holy crap!... So I bought a set. Until now, I had no idea this was becoming a popular strain, haha. I just liked the name and the terpene profile matches my preferences. But cool! I guess this will be my take on the strain and see how it goes. I'll edit in the link if the DSD grow I mentioned. Using his flowering period as reference for this grow (same seed bank after all) Thanks spinner! Hope this DSD is comparible to others trying her out! Cheers Edit: @DD_420 has a completed DSD and a brand new DSD at end week 5. Check it out! Beautiful plant.

@Mrs_Larimar, Yeah the Do is dos is trying to be the 2019/2020 fancy strain selection, every breeder tey to have their own version of it ... and I don't even know why it has been so famous πŸ€— must be a killer strain

Jinks said; The 'Meh': -Fungal gnat problem exists, still, but is completely under control for now. I say: those fungus gnats are a pain in the ass. And they come back in " waves" I have them in nearly every grow, especially using airpots ( they can crawl in th holes) iam continously " fighting " them in every stage. But its a good sign for living soil with agood microbacterial life... ( this is what i tell to myself not to freak out )

@Mrs_Larimar, Glad I'm not the only one! And I'm with you on this. I was worried at first but now I just understand its apart of this specific grow. Their under control and I'm not going to panick over it. Girls are all very happy and I'm not letting the pests establish themselves. Thank you for sharing this. That I'm not the only one seeing them. I thought it was a newbie mistake but it seems they are relatively normal to have, AS LONG as they don't get out of hand

funny I also wanted to extend drying time to 7-10 days and ended up in 5 ... No fans, just low extraction, 18*C, 50% RH ... it would be nice to compare longer drying times. We will get there! keep up that energy into your next grow πŸ‘

@JinksyGrows, I'm in the same boat... always used 3% H2O2 and now on my last bottle and don't like my chances of getting another :) By the way, I'm thinking of doing a vertical ScrOG experiment in my next crop. I'm sure we'll stay in touch and up to date.
JinksyGrows

@HazeyBobby, I have been using 3% H202, but with recent developments (this whole pandemic thing) I'm a little hesitant about using it for the tent and will probably be going with bleach instead...unfortunately. I'm positive there are other methods to sanitize, but these are the only two chemical products I have at hand, ATM. Afterwards I do a sanitation and clean off all chemical residue too. Just in case! I hate the lingering smells they leave and I'm positive the plants do pick some of that up through the moisture in the air.

@JinksyGrows, what do you use to sterilise the tent? I'm using 20L airpots and one has an infestation of springtales - I will need to do something about that :)

@DD_420, No worries man. I have a pretty good idea what the Veg of the plant should look like, but your flowering pictures are more what I'm after (which are all there). If you're interested and want to send me some photos of Veg without making a new diary, my email is posted in personal info. Again, you dont have to! Haha. But if you want, by all means, I'd love to see you Veg photos and LST. P.S. Yah! I germinated Nov 10th and they popped nov 12th. Our schedules seem to be lined right up.

@JinksyGrows, apologize for the missing weeks to start my first do si dos. She was originally used to cut babies from for a couple co workers outdoor this year while I low stress trained her to form a thicker canopy once she flowered. I’d show you a picture of the 2nd gen mother and her 2 current 3rd gen babies but I can’t figure out how to show you other than starting a new journal. The two 3rd generation Babies I have currently were transplanted from pucks to pots on Remembrance Day making them within days of yours I believe

@DD_420, Yo! My Do-Si-Dos bro!! I followed through and here she is, above ground! Thanks for the kind words brother. If I can get the girl to look half as good as yours, we're in business. Coincidentally, I was running through the journal several days agoπŸ˜„ making sure I'm on par with your growth rate. Theres no week 1 though 7 but I still feel like I'm behind. Sweeeeeeet Flower Time!!!!!! Just wait till you see how many trichomes DSD is going to pack on! I have my 2 dsd next to some Hindu Kush right now and they look pretty much the same for tri’s. However the Hindu Kush are too be coming down 2 weeks befor the dsd. Get ready for the white out that’s coming your way, hehe

@DD_420, oh buddy, I can't wait to see the DSD blow up and be snowcap white. She's the smallest plant out of the four, but I don't think she will disappointe. And if the Hindu Kush is coming down two weeks prior and they look the same, you're probably in for even more frosty goodness with DSDπŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ˜€. Bring on the white outπŸ‘πŸ˜‰. Cheers brother

@HazeyBobby, As long as we walk in knowing what we need/want, AN is a great company. I have been upsold on a couple supplements that I really didn't need, though. Not AN's fault, though. Looks like I'll be going for one of three lines. Future harvest, AN or Emerald Harvest. Give me two weeks and I might actually have made up my mind...lol! I'm fickle.
HazeyBobby
HazeyBobby
@JinksyGrows, agree - that list of products that goes on turned me off initially. And I do see some diaries here that include so many additives from AN - not my kind of approach to growing :)
JinksyGrows
JinksyGrows
@HazeyBobby, Great info. Wierd they don't taper down the nitrogen for late flower... Definitely see that causing some issues. And I actually have looked into advanced nutrients quite a bit. It's very solid product. Not a huge fan that they have 51! products, but if I pick the right supplements, advanced nutrients is definitely at the top of the short list. Never heard anything bad about it or them... Looks goodπŸ‘
