Howdy, and welcome to DSD's 4th week of bloom. The deets:
The Good:
-Lovely week with little Dosee. I haven't nicknamed any of my plants up to now, but yesterday DSD officially became the "Hobbit House". Haha. Such a tiny, tight and bushy plant, I felt this worked for her.
-After another flush through and feed with a cut to micro and gro, DSD has officially kicked the nitrogen toxicity she was working on and everything looks and feels 100% normal again. PH was at 5.7 and raised to 6.0. RO PPM's were hovering around 1750 and have dropped to an acceptable 1250ppm. Went back to normal feeding with the addition of King Kola by Emerald Harvest without an issue or spike in PPM's or a drop in pH. really happy for her.
-She noticeably grew upwards this week and I feel it is a symptom of washing away excess nutrients blocking the uptake of others to help her move and bulk up. Her colas are stacking very, very well and I'm really impressed with how fat she's getting while there's still so much time left for her to go. I see a lot of plants like DSD on here, but they usually trained there's to look like this on purpose...mine was accidental. Whether it was stunting due to my feedings and issues I've had with her, or this is just her genetic make up doesn't really matter. I can see she will have a healthy harvest and will thrive up until then.๐
-Just like the others, DSD had a prune and defo job preformed, but there was very little to take (At least compared to the others). She's so tight, I couldn't find leaves or shoots I could comfortably take. All the fans are attached to budding sites and there weren't many extraneous shoots that would become LARF. I did a little bit and she took everything very well. No stress or reaction after the cuts and feed. Happy, happy.
The Bad:
-Nooooooo Baaaaad
The 'Meh':
-As mentioned above she's really tight and bushy. Makes it hard to do any defo work that I would like to do. I plan on taking several key fans off in the coming weeks to open up a little more, but it's tough... I walked around her 5 times with my snips and I just couldn't decide what to take or if I wanted to take anything more...I left her be, instead.
-Would like to adjust her height and/or the lamp in the back to accommodate her a little more. Probably have to prop her up even further as the lamp is at the sweet spot for NL #1 in the back, but not for DSD. NL is taller and DSD needs to match her.
Notes of the Week:
-I see this grow will have a larger yield then my first. All the changes in lighting, atmosphere, grow methods, techniques, feeding schedules and most importantly, new supplementation of Potassium Silicate, Fulvic/Humic Acids. molasses, root hormones for transplants and Gaia Green soil Bone meal Soil conditioner have made this possible. I do not regret a single thing I purchased in an attempt to optimize this grow over my first. Only with the advice and help of my favorite peoples on this site, would this have been possible. I didn't know about or look into any of this my first grow. I feel like I've been shaken awake and see all the things I CAN do to increase productivity, yield and quality๐. Thank you kindly to all those people that help carry me and are showing me the ropes to better grows.
-All plants are essentially finished training, defo and trimming. They will be left alone to do their thing and I will just do my best to keep them happy while they do so.
-3 Strains in one tent instead of two with my first, has given me a great cross section of plants to look at. They're all so different and seeing them show who they are is a cool experience. With their differences, it also taught me to treat the girls strain specific in terms of feeding and care. I've learned a lot by having my hands on these 3 and access to my friends 3 strains (BC Big Bud, Granddaddy black and banana kush). The more the better.
-Introduction of King Kola to all plants this week. First dose @ 2/3rd's dose as a test and all girls are happy and showed no issue or stress with the new addition. I picked King Kola, after researching many blooming agents, for a couple reasons. Their trio series (micro-grow-bloom) is very close to the same dosing and concentration as the GHE trio series I'm using. Close to the same, everything....really. I knew that adding KK into the mix wouldn't hurt them as both schedules and concentrations are damn near the same. The other reason was based on community and user reviews. It was highly rated compared to other PK boosters I was looking at and since I was already using EH's Sturdy Stalk (with great success) I trusted the quality, what they had advertised the product as, and what it will do.
-Continuing to cut Gro out of my formula while maintaining or upping both Micro and Bloom. Gro is essentially negligible at this point and I'm covering my potassium with the other two. Now with the PK booster, I feel there is zero need for floragro.
-I loved EH's Sturdy Stalk and am looking forward to using it again in the Veg stage in grow #3. I'm positive that starting this potassium silicate supplement earlier in the grow will give me better, stronger and faster results. Late to the party on this one, but glad someone recommended it and I will up it's use, next go.
-Was dragging my feet on picking up a PK booster, even though I saw and knew everyone was using this choice supplement. With a gentle push from a great acquaintance, I did my research and purchased what I felt would work best for me and my grow, as well as working in conjunction with my other nutrients. I understand now, just how much of a game changer this can and will be. It was explained to me that at this point in the grow, even though they're seemingly happy and healthy, they're also hungry. They can and will easily take a booster in order to swell and push fatter bud sites.
What I Learned This Week:
-I had resigned myself to all the LARF I noticed after the stretch. I was too paranoid to take any of it because of the dreaded "H" word. I've read multiple horror stories online of people warning DO NOT PRUNE IN FLOWER, OR ELSE!!!. I read these things before I even started grow #1 and it had made me believe that this was a "rule". Well, I kept looking at the LARF and it kept eating away at me. It was going to be nothing, I couldn't open up the plant anymore and I wanted my focus to be on my main tops, not the undergrowth...I think most all of us can agree or go for that. I then started a search for an experienced Defo'er on here. I found her and we had a good chat. Couple things. Firstly, there is a very high chance that all those people that had hermies after pruning in flower probably had a different ailment or stress issue occurring to cause this (like a light leak). The stress of pruning would need to compound on top of other problems to possibly cause a seeding issue. Pruning alone, with a healthy and happy plant, should not hurt her at all...that this is a normal practice. Not just with Cannabis but w/ a lot of fruit baring trees and plants. My grandfather did the same in his orchard to focus attention on the top canopies of his apple trees and even called the pruned sections "suckers"! Secondly, at the end of the day, if all parameters are in order, the plants are healthy, but they still hermie, it's very likely a case of genetics more then anything else. Picking out versatile genetics from the get-go is key. So! My genetics are good, plants are healthy and vigorous... I went ahead and did the trim and clean up. If something does happen, it's all on me and I know that, but I have great confidence that everything is alright and will continue to be alright. I guess this long ramble is a PSA to any newcomers scared to work on their plants because of the things they've read on that there inter-web. So much of what you/I read on Cannabis in forums and even in articles by "Reputable" sources is fearmongering. So many falsities and I really, really recommend staying away from all those unfit sources. So much of it is opinion over objective facts. On GD, it's much less of an opinion than it is a fact. Proof is in the pictures and there's plenty of proof to back up one's claims. This is a "put up or shut up" site to me, and I love it. To new comers, like me, reach out and talk to people on GD that have proven to be competent and knowledgeable growers. Crush the fear and anxiety with the help of these people. They ALL want to see you succeed, here. REACH OUT!
Thanks all for dropping by and reading this weeks addition of DSD (The Hobbit House๐). Have a great week with your projects and your girls. Best of luck and happy grows. Cheers๐
Need advice as soon as possible. Please see last few pictures of DoSiDos week 3. Am I looking at mottling here? Soil ph maladjusted? Please help if you've seen this before, and what steps do it take moving forward (or am I paranoid, IDK). Thank you!
most growers like the flowering, i like the seedlings and vegetation time the best. as you say they are moving so fast and you can tain her in various shapes
@Ga4rd2en0er, You and I and others seem to agree๐. Some stunning LST and form in the grows I see on here. I like when it goes beyond product, alone. The plant is beautiful and it's fun to help bring that out. ๐๐
@JinksyGrows, I guess I'm a design nerd, I love designing new systems to grow in and when a design fails or is performing poorly, I love the challenges of fine tuning or redesign. 2nd favorite is flowering time watching the ladies mature and develop their wonderful aroma. My least favorite is harvest day. My hands cramp easily from trimming ๐, the disinfecting and clean up.
@OutForReal, Haha, to each their own. I do love the colors and form come end game๐. But the time I get to spend with them on veg is almost meditative for me and it's a super peaceful time.
Thanks for dropping by Spinner and for all the love on the grows! Greatly appreciated.
Cheers my friend! Happy grows
@Mrs_Larimar, It is a sad feeling. Spent so much time with her it's hard not to become attached. But she did great and she will live on with the fruits she's givenโบ๏ธ.
@OutForReal, So, long story short I picked DSD for its name, lol! How can I pass by a strain called do-si-dos, what a cool name! So, I came on here and found 2 DSD grows using the same genetics from seed bank (i49). I didn't trust the breeders projected 29% and asked them to verify if they tested (an indie Dom that high, can it be?). Anyways, it be, hahaha. One user pulled a beauty harvest at 31%!!! Holy crap!... So I bought a set.
Until now, I had no idea this was becoming a popular strain, haha. I just liked the name and the terpene profile matches my preferences. But cool! I guess this will be my take on the strain and see how it goes.
I'll edit in the link if the DSD grow I mentioned. Using his flowering period as reference for this grow (same seed bank after all)
Thanks spinner! Hope this DSD is comparible to others trying her out!
Cheers
Edit: @DD_420 has a completed DSD and a brand new DSD at end week 5. Check it out! Beautiful plant.
@Mrs_Larimar, Yeah the Do is dos is trying to be the 2019/2020 fancy strain selection, every breeder tey to have their own version of it ... and I don't even know why it has been so famous ๐ค must be a killer strain
@Mrs_Larimar, We are and here we go! Very excited, even more then my first go. With all the changes you helped me with, I'm pumped to see the results. But! can't get cocky, still only half way๐๐
Cheers my friend and thank you for touching on my diaries ๐๐

The 'Meh':
-Fungal gnat problem exists, still, but is completely under control for now.
I say:
those fungus gnats are a pain in the ass. And they come back in " waves" I have them in nearly every grow, especially using airpots ( they can crawl in th holes) iam continously " fighting " them in every stage.
But its a good sign for living soil with agood microbacterial life... ( this is what i tell to myself not to freak out )
@Mrs_Larimar, Glad I'm not the only one! And I'm with you on this. I was worried at first but now I just understand its apart of this specific grow. Their under control and I'm not going to panick over it. Girls are all very happy and I'm not letting the pests establish themselves.
Thank you for sharing this. That I'm not the only one seeing them. I thought it was a newbie mistake but it seems they are relatively normal to have, AS LONG as they don't get out of hand
Just saw pic of your current set up, do you have a Co2 generator? If not you can make one outta a couple plastic bottles and some cheap aquarium pump tubing....
@CRiSPrGrow, just posted a picture of the DIY Co2 generator in my new diary Do Si Dos round 2, should find it in week 4โs pictures for anyone that wants the visual.
funny I also wanted to extend drying time to 7-10 days and ended up in 5 ... No fans, just low extraction, 18*C, 50% RH ... it would be nice to compare longer drying times. We will get there! keep up that energy into your next grow ๐
@JinksyGrows, I'm in the same boat... always used 3% H2O2 and now on my last bottle and don't like my chances of getting another :) By the way, I'm thinking of doing a vertical ScrOG experiment in my next crop. I'm sure we'll stay in touch and up to date.
@HazeyBobby, I have been using 3% H202, but with recent developments (this whole pandemic thing) I'm a little hesitant about using it for the tent and will probably be going with bleach instead...unfortunately. I'm positive there are other methods to sanitize, but these are the only two chemical products I have at hand, ATM. Afterwards I do a sanitation and clean off all chemical residue too. Just in case! I hate the lingering smells they leave and I'm positive the plants do pick some of that up through the moisture in the air.
@JinksyGrows, what do you use to sterilise the tent? I'm using 20L airpots and one has an infestation of springtales - I will need to do something about that :)
@DD_420, No worries man. I have a pretty good idea what the Veg of the plant should look like, but your flowering pictures are more what I'm after (which are all there). If you're interested and want to send me some photos of Veg without making a new diary, my email is posted in personal info. Again, you dont have to! Haha. But if you want, by all means, I'd love to see you Veg photos and LST.
P.S. Yah! I germinated Nov 10th and they popped nov 12th. Our schedules seem to be lined right up.
@JinksyGrows, apologize for the missing weeks to start my first do si dos. She was originally used to cut babies from for a couple co workers outdoor this year while I low stress trained her to form a thicker canopy once she flowered. Iโd show you a picture of the 2nd gen mother and her 2 current 3rd gen babies but I canโt figure out how to show you other than starting a new journal. The two 3rd generation Babies I have currently were transplanted from pucks to pots on Remembrance Day making them within days of yours I believe
@DD_420, Yo! My Do-Si-Dos bro!! I followed through and here she is, above ground! Thanks for the kind words brother. If I can get the girl to look half as good as yours, we're in business. Coincidentally, I was running through the journal several days ago๐ making sure I'm on par with your growth rate. Theres no week 1 though 7 but I still feel like I'm behind. Will kick it up a notch.
@Mrs_Larimar, Thank you my friend, very much. Grow number one is just getting further and further away and these new results are night and day. I'm very happy and content with these kids and their potential ๐. It's about quality, always, but a larger yeild then my first wouldn't make me mad๐
Sweeeeeeet Flower Time!!!!!! Just wait till you see how many trichomes DSD is going to pack on! I have my 2 dsd next to some Hindu Kush right now and they look pretty much the same for triโs. However the Hindu Kush are too be coming down 2 weeks befor the dsd.
Get ready for the white out thatโs coming your way, hehe
@DD_420, oh buddy, I can't wait to see the DSD blow up and be snowcap white. She's the smallest plant out of the four, but I don't think she will disappointe. And if the Hindu Kush is coming down two weeks prior and they look the same, you're probably in for even more frosty goodness with DSD๐๐๐.
Bring on the white out๐๐. Cheers brother
@Mrs_Larimar, I. Absolutely. Love. It. Like night and day. Best part is being able to see the plants clealry. The blurple served me well, but I'm happy to have upgraded to this.
Girls look good, youve done alot for them.I see only good actions taken in your diary. and afew spots on aleaf...... she is going to grow it out.......but if those marks spread we got to talk again
@HazeyBobby, As long as we walk in knowing what we need/want, AN is a great company. I have been upsold on a couple supplements that I really didn't need, though. Not AN's fault, though. Looks like I'll be going for one of three lines. Future harvest, AN or Emerald Harvest. Give me two weeks and I might actually have made up my mind...lol! I'm fickle.
@JinksyGrows, agree - that list of products that goes on turned me off initially. And I do see some diaries here that include so many additives from AN - not my kind of approach to growing :)
@HazeyBobby, Great info. Wierd they don't taper down the nitrogen for late flower... Definitely see that causing some issues. And I actually have looked into advanced nutrients quite a bit. It's very solid product. Not a huge fan that they have 51! products, but if I pick the right supplements, advanced nutrients is definitely at the top of the short list. Never heard anything bad about it or them... Looks good๐
