Recovery from light/heat burn & the beginning of HST, Topping and Main-Lining this week. In some ways a difficult process (I don't know why I do this to myself) with half my plants headed outdoors at the end of May (thus not wanting to Top or mess with them much at this point), and the other half switching to flower once the others do head outdoors (and thus wanting to Main-Line, Top, etc. now). First time trying Main-Lining, so I've gone full at it with Chemdawg and Black D.O.G. #2, but cautiously with The New (I left extra nodes).
I top dressed with more Gaia 4-4-4-, I did a Kelp Meal tea, and SST with Alfalfa this past week.
Update 4/20. Lots has changed! All doing pretty well. A few gnats around so trying to act quickly. HST/Mainlining continues. Some stem casualties but taped up and moving along since.
Topped indoor Bubba. I’m removing a lot of top fan leaves (after seeing how quickly HST plants fill in the gap) on my Bubba’s and they’re responding amazingly well. They seem to enjoy adapting to light improving defoliation.
Black Dog is starting to speed up growth (on both at the same time, even with one Main-lining). It’s been slow and steady so far. Slower in Veg than Bubba even.
The New is a thing of beauty. I’m feeling it out re: HST, and the decision to “Main-line” two sets of nodes has been good. It’s all even mostly, and it’s allowed me to design a 16-cola plan (so far...in time we’ll see if this was smart). Either way, it responds quickly and the spacing/lateral branching is balanced. Definitely enjoying this plant a lot.
Cream Caramel is thicccc. Another Main-line with two sets of nodes. It’s an outdoor. But it was so squat I decided to give the idea of 4 main branches a go. I’m trying to do as little as possible before it goes outside end of May.
Trouble in paradise. Issues with new growth on a few plants in my 2nd tent. Rather suddenly. Past experience lead me to suspect a pest eating my roots (no, not a deficiency). Checked soil. Bingo. Bulb mite? Best way to attack issue? I have 3 weeks before these go outdoors. Neem?
Hello.. Hope you are well.. Ive read that Hypoaspis mites Are a natural wat to get them little critters.. Just also read that Cosmolaelaps claviger, a beneficial mite that is a natural predator of bulb mites.. Contact ur local gardening centres or hyd3shops and ask if they stock these natural predators.. Stay safe n gud luck.. Please let me know if u are successful as i haven't tryed this myself yet luckily but never know for future reference.. 👍🍀
@jef79 with a great answer : biological solutions are the only solutions that really are sure to work with no damage to the quality of your bud. I personally use bacilus thuriengiensis, or ladybugs
@PotentiallyPotent, depends! Early Veg I have just been doing a simple molasses and worm casting tea with a tiny bit of liquid Kelp and Gaia Green 4-4-4 in there too. Later I’ll do a more fungal dominated tea in flower.
Pest management has been a major focus with everyone this year. I've sprayed down spider mites in mid veg then thrips and now the damn silk worms are repelling out of the fucking trees! Good luck and great looking grow.
@Obitrice, Haha seems like a never ending battle sometimes hey? I just try to keep the plant as healthy as I can so it can fight off whatever comes at it. Hope it all works out!
@Sweet_Seeds, very excited to give Cream Caramel CBD version a go. It was a freebie seed (and a pretty old one at that), so I’m just happy it’s popped and keeping up with the others so far!
Thanks all! I ended up using/ordering a combo of all three suggestions (Neem, Soap and predatory mites). Plants in this tent all still look good, and the other tent with most affected plant hanging in there. Outdoor organic environment will take care of these issues, and the mites I add should help for the 4 ladies I leave indoors and flip/flower for the next 70-75 days. Appreciate the support!
I also wanted to note I added Insect Frass and Worm Castings as a top dress. The Frass provides the only immediately plant available Chitin, which will help activate the plant’s auto-immune response. I mixed aloe Vera powder into my last watering as well to help the plant out. Later this weekend I will top dress with Malted Barley.
