The internet made me buy those two beautiful Autoflowers 😍
In my other diary here - the Blue Dream CBD one - I tested a training method close to Mainlining but a little adopted, Quadlining it's called by a guy, Asesino85, at 420 Magazine. He showcases his plants with this method beautifully and many more others do too. I recommend checking this forum (hope this is ok here?) if you are interested in trying this method. Search for QUADLINING. Everyone is friendly and there is a huge amount of knowledge/experience present.
These two beauties will have to face 2 major challenges, one being them topped & trained as soon as possible - inspired by @Basementganjas Diariy here and his GSC style. Combined with the Quadlining style of removing leaves and aiming for a properly trained plant, to the outside of the pot, if possible. The goal is, to get the Quadlining "X".
The second challenge for them is joining the bigger photoperiod plant in Flower. I have no experience with 12:12 in general and all I found is Autos in 12:12 from seed (decreased yield etc.), but not any different. Both strains don't seem to be the biggest plants anyway and I'm not growing them for yield but for experience, their beauty and quality if I don't mess up.
Week 0:
I like to soak my seeds in a Hydrogen Peroxide solution for 12-24 hours and then move them to a warm & dark place inside a ziplock with a paper towel soaked in the same solution until a tap root shows. The ziplock bag is important, for the paper towel not to dry out. I forgot the ziplock this time, also I forgot to spray my paper towel before bed. All went well lucky me, just don't forget the ziplock :)
Quick info on the solution: 1 ounce/28ml hydrogen peroxide 3% in 1 pint/473ml water - google for this article as reference: How Does Hydrogen Peroxide Affect Seed Germination? I am doing this, since the first time I lost 6 seeds with regular methods. My guess is, it wasn't warm enough. So now I add a heat mat to avoid that mistake, but still go with the peroxide, since superstition :)
After 7 days of soaking and paper towel and potting in final pot and waiting for them to show up: both are up and happy little ones in their final 8l fabric pots. All of this and until their first set of leaves shows, I count as Week 0. After that I start counting days 😀
To finish Week 0, I properly watered them the first time, with 0.5ml Rootjuice in 1l. I use Biobizz Light Soil Mix btw.
Week 1:
Day 1 still wet 3 days later. (Day 8 from seedling)
Day 4 still little wet from watering. wow. no water. growing well looking good for 4days/11days.
Day 5 got watered with 500ml each 1ml fish & 1 ml heaven. first real feeding.
Welcome week 2, this week the Quadlining training begins with Topping and removing nodes. It is recommended to do these two steps with a little time in between, to let the plant recover a little. A recent experiment from another grower (at 420Mag) has shown, that doing both at the same day, seems to be better for the plant. So stress all at once and let her be. I will try that next time, makes sense. I was inspired by another grower from here called Basementganja to top one node earlier and only remove the first node (Quadlining you remove the first two nodes and top above the fourth node) He starts training his plants very early. I liked the idea of that, since I wanted to get as much of the training done in veg, as I could. Both my Autoflowers and in general can start flowering at any time and I needed their growth to train with.
I'm using Biobizz Heaven to make them strong, in this case, I think they took to it too well and I had really thick stems which are harder to train. To recover from topping I also gave them a little of Biobizz Activera.
Day 8/15 (Day Veg/Seed) switched positions for better lighting. checked if they need watering. will wait till tomorrow. on photo they look dry. mmh... no food.
Day 10/17 TOPPED over 3rd node. watered 1l each with 1ml activera fish heaven
Day 12/19 REMOVAL of node 1. watering? top soil still little wet. no watering. quadline started. top fan leaf broke off of blackberry. but not the shute. fingers crossed 🤞
Day 13/20 watering and more training. broke one bottom shute in blackberry. taped.
Day 14/21 looking so so. stems really thick. hard to bend.
Edit: I am writing this entry after I already went through half the grow. In this particular week, I made some horrible mistakes. So if you want to try this training, don't make the same mistakes. I trained my plants too hard, I used green wire and tomato hocks and I didn't leave enough room for them. So just because you can bend them all the way down, don't but see it as a gradual bending process, every day a little more.
Week 3, a very clumsy week :( With my other plant (Blue Dream CBD) I already experienced the loss of one arm. Now again 😔I must be doing something wrong and couldn't explain what... So I asked. The answer is HULKING, like Hulk the green guy. I trained my plants too hard and didn't give them any room to play in without breaking themselves. Bad thing, but at least I know now, what I did wrong. And hey, two more TRIlined ladies, they seem to know their place in tent. Moving on ✌️
Day 17/24 watered
Day 19/26 water tomorrow. removed dead parts of both 😪. two more tri-lines joined 🤔😍 blackberry shows signs of pre-flower. lsd very bushy and little less thick stems. wow. almost dry. blackberry has some yellow spots on leaves.
Day 20/27 watering day. 1l each with fish, activera, algamic, heaven. all around half dose. looking good. some more training. yellow spots on leaves more big. mmh... Blackberry apparently Calmag hungry and go easy on the nitrogen!!!
Day 21/28 Blackberry in Pre-Flower. LSD still getting there.
Week of the FLIP - Week 4 since Counting days - Week 5 since sprouting - Week 1 of Flower
Day 22/29 Flipped to 12:12 at night 😱
Day 23/30/1 Day 1 of Flip. Raised pots to same level as blue dream. lets see. 30cm to light. blackberry higher than lsd. lsd more even. had to put light back up. they showed curled up leaf tips. seems to be to hot and much light.
Day 24/31/2 checked if need water. tomorrow only water plus calmag for blackberry and lsd gets food. they seem to like the light change. growing up wohooo. changed height of lsd. lowered little. no more curling up leaves 😍
Day 25/32/3 watered 2l with calmag activera and alcamig. adjusted little. looking good. they seem to like the flowering time.
Day 26/33/4 supercropped one of Blackberrys main arms, worked well.
Day 28/35/6 watering? nope still wetish
Week 5/6/2 of Flip the week, where my Blackberry started to purple. Her leaves are getting a dark purple, beautiful. LSD was a little neglected, photo-wise :) But she fully arrived in flower by the end of week 5. Since Blackberry seemed to be further along, I started feeding her very little bloom food. LSD-25 was still getting a bigger dose of nitrogen, since she was still growing more.
Day 29/36/7 First week of 12:12 done. looking good. blackberry shows purple. she seems further than lsd.
Day 30/37/8 watered 2l both. with 2ml fish, 2ml heaven, activera and algamic.
Day 31/38/9 Blackberry forming nice buds, nice white pistils
Dat 32/39/10 Blackberry 0,5ml bloom and topmax and grow. lsd no bloom and topmax. but grow.
Week 6/7/3 of Flip both are starting to stack their arms with buds. I'm happy with them. They are easy to handle along. I am constantly defoliating leaves, that are blocking bud sites. The training of the arms is getting less, only one side arm is stubborn and still needs held.
Day 36/43/14 need water soon.
Day 37/44/15 watered and adjusted height. did defoliation of leaves blocking bud sight. you want to systematically remove leaves on all arms, if possible. removed some clips. watered with 3l total. 2ml grow per l, 1ml bloom, 1ml topmax, 1ml heaven. hope its not too much grow? next time less and more bloom. bb smells like berries. wow. lsd slowly shows purple in her pistils.
Day 40/47/18 all good.
Day 41/48/19 watered 3l for both. 1ml grow. 2ml bloom. 1ml topmax. 1ml heaven. little defol.
Week 7/8/4 of Flip - all is going smoothly, they are drinking more now.
Day 43/50/21 LSD has stacked on some weight and turning purple slowly.
Day 46/53/24 watered 3l in total for both. 1ml grow, 2ml bloom, 1ml topmax, 1ml heaven. next time maybe clear water?
Day 47/54/25 seem dry again. wow. they are drinking more now.
Day 49/56/27 watering 3l in total. adding bud candy & bud explosion? grow alcamig and activera.
Week 8/9/5 of Flip - They are getting fatter every day and Blackberry smells heavenly weird of berries, not exactly yummy berries, but sweet and strong. LSD-25 has a gasy smell, petrol, something harsh. Blackberry looks and feels almost oily? Both are throwing heavy foxtails, I'm not scared, I was prepared for both of them to that, it's their genetics. So they are not stressed. The only difficult thing with Foxtails is, that I never know, when the plant is finished, since they grow until the very end. Haven't checked trichs yet but zooming in on some photos, Blackberry & LSD both show amber trichs on sugar leaves already. I am shocked 😱LSD also shows slight swelling of calyx, which I recall to be a sign for the last big stacking phase before finishing. This is not possible, so early?
I will have to plan my flush soon and start checking trichs. Wohoooooo
I took a photo of one of Blackberrys weird leaf formation, she had them growing all over for some time. Mmh, I like mutant weirdos, she's fine. I also started checking their trichomes, since they look really close. I tested a method called focus layering to get a more steady close-up shot. Not bad for my first time. I'm happy with the results.
Current status on the training method used: First, I'm "glad" both of them lost an arm (actually all three), since these 3 TRIangles fit perfectly in my tent. None of the plants is interfering with the other plants. Airflow is also great, since only what's needed is on the plants. Blackberry is quite sturdy and harder to train down. So you can see one of her main arms stealing more energy which makes the rest of the inner growth lack a little. LSD-25 looks differently, she was easier to train and so her canopy looks more even. I would recommend the earlier topping (after node 3), due to limited veg time. I'm also very pleased with their height, they measure around 37cm in height incl. the pot.
Day 51/58/29 checked trichomes first time. LSD some amber on leaves 😊 wow. slight calyx swelling as well
Day 53/60/31 forgot to water, upsi. looking really almost finished. wow. so fast. need bud candy and bud explosion? nope. need to dial down nitrogen, leaves are a little too dark green. should not add more food, slight yellow tips. I think they have enough of all.
Week 9 - I am shocked how fast they develop, wow 😱After checking their trichomes, I see some amber on sugar leaves, 70% milky and maybe 30% clear. And that is not only on top buds but also down to the mid section of the plant. I started flushing them with flawless finish. I made good experience with that last time. I think we are getting close to the finish line, currently guessing that it's gonna be another 2 weeks max. (Never wrong with that guess... 😂)
I also added a yellow banana to each their pot. I'm quoting from here: https://www.420magazine.com/community/threads/a-stoners-random-thoughts.277723/page-41#post-4131431
"Bananas, and in fact all ripening fruit, emits ethylene gas, which ramps up the ripening of the cannabis in flower." I'm all up for "bro-science" and love trying stuff like that.
It will be another game of trich-checking, waiting, hoping for more signs, like calyx swelling and other things, that announce the finish line. Good place to be ✌️
Update end of Week 9 - SInce starting the flush, especially the LSD-25 has reacted strongly. She almost looks like she popped a bit more, her calyx are swelling which I remember from my last grow is a good sign we're getting close. I haven't done any more trich shots, since they're still at the same state from last time: milky. Both plants have a rather fluffy bud structure and lots of foxtails. In between buds both have amazing colors. I guess another week to 10 days at this moment.
Update last day of week 9 - I did some trichome shots. They both - LSD-25 more - seem almost finished. Currently around 15% amber and rest milky. Some smaller buds at the bottom are a mix of milky and clear. I guess I will chop on the weekend... We have tried a little of both already, I couldn't resist :)
Welcome Week 10 since Vegetation - Week 7 since Flipping them to 12:12 with the Photoperiod in the tent - Week 11 since their first bath in water as a seed.
Day 64 & 65 both looked the same, LSD-25 really stacked up nicely, she changed the form of her buds completely the last week. From the classical Christmas tree shape into a wild fat foxtail covered something 😍Blackberry remained almost the same size and bulked in the lower department of her buds, the top seemed finished for some time.
Today on Day 66 I found the time to check their trichomes again, not only on top buds, but also the bottom ones. I took some photos, they show a good amount of amber and milky, just how I like it.
Another sign for them to be ready I found was, they are drinking less. I watered them 4 days ago and today they would've normally needed watering. Close to the end, they don't seem to need anymore water, makes sense...
So I chopped them today on Day 66 (and 44 days in 12:12 Flower 👻) and put them in a water vase (another bro-science thing besides the banana 😎) and darkness for 24-48 hours. In regards to darkness before harvesting, I found this interesting: "During darkness the plant stores starches in its roots, during the day when light is on, they are drawn up into the plant. Harvesting just before lights on (after flushing thoroughly of course) minimizes the amount of starches in the plant at the time of harvest. This means less starches to cure out, and a less harsh final product."
From here: https://www.rollitup.org/t/does-darkness-before-harvest-actually-do-anything.325229/
Another one of my bro-science thingys this time was the addition of a yellow banana during the end-flower-phase (see photo of bananas after cutting them down). Of course I imagine that it did something haha, especially with LSD-25, she seemed to pop more post-banana-addition.
In general, LSD-25 seemed to be lacking behind the Blackberry for a good while, but she really took over in the last week. I must admit that we snacked quite a lot from the LSD in the last couple of days, I guess everyone can understand with the current situation 😝
So yeah, happy days, looking forward to proper drying and processing these ladies. I will update with more details soon ✌️
I grew this strain together with another photoperiod strain and one more Autoflower. It was a matter of either using the space in the tent or not. So 🙌 They all vegged together and as soon as those two Autoflowers where ready to flower, I switched them all together to 12:12 light schedule. That worked perfectly for both plants.
Since I'm still learning and this has been my third grow so far, I also wanted to test, not only how Autos react to 12:12 in Flower, but also how well they took the so called "Quadline"-training. You remove the bottom nodes and then top. Out of the 4 remaining nodes, you spread a "X" and train those to the outside of the pot. This is the short version, I talk about this more in my diary. Both plants got this training (actually all three), and all lost one of their arms due to hulking :) Oh my. I keep that in mind for my future calculations, as in 1/4 was missing in total.
The LSD-25 seemed to lack a little behind the Blackberry, if you were to compare both size and growth, but caught up in the end. The LSD-25 grew much bushier and had a beautiful even canopy. She faded nicely towards the end. Also the buds grew evenly along the stem. She popped nicely towards the end and def. shows good signs for when she is finished. Both trichomes and calyx swelling.
Drying - I tried this strain two different ways:
1. Low and Slow Dry in the fridge and
2. Regular Dry in a dry tent with 52% RH and 21°C - only 6 days of Drying.
For the low and slow dry, you wash the buds untrimmed in a baking powder and lemon mix. Then you hang dry them in a well ventilated box to hang dry for 4-8 hours. Trim your buds a little, then weigh 28g of fresh flower per paper bag and put them in your normal fridge. I have them lay flat next to each other in their paper bags, to not touch. Every day I give them a gentle shake in the paper. Be prepared for great smells the first 2 days. It's called the lemon pepper steak in my house 😆 Around the 7 day mark, I take them out and let them come to room temperature. Then they go inside a glas jar to do the humidity test. You need to measure humidity inside the glas. After 12 hours, if you are above 75%, they need to go back to the fridge. The next day, same procedure until you get them below 75%. Then you can cure them in your jars like the rest. If you are interested, don't hesitate to ask me or go to 420magazine.com to check on the low and slo dry.
The LSD-25 I liked better from the regular dry. It felt more sticky, since the drying brought out nicely how sticky she is.

The Blackberry was an eager plant growing, fat stems and big leaves. She was leading until the end of the growth. She looked finished early on, but not so much from her trichomes. Def. need to check those, since she doesn't show any other obvious signs, at least not for me. In veg phase this strain def. needed a little extra CalMag, she seemed pretty hungry.

The Blackberry out of the fridge was equally as nice as the regular dried ones. For bag appeal, both look and taste amazing. I prefer my fridge dried ones, especially for preparing oils. Will def. grow this strain again and have a closer look at the medicinal values of purple buds 😍
