12/7 - Day 22 Took @Ezzjaygrow's advice and got some training wire to start experimenting with LST. Trying to figure out how far I should be bending to top nodes without inadvertently turning LST into HST. When I tied my tops down in the morning, I didn't get too aggressive, just bent the tops so they were at about a 45 degree angle to get some light penetration to my lower leaves. I checked on them around my lunch break and the tops were already curled back up towards the light and the fan leaves were dominating all the light again (albeit, with a little crook in the stem). Clearly I could be a bit more aggressive so I re-tied everything and tried to get the tops to be as close as perpendicular to the tops of my pots as possible (see late day adjustment photos). I'll check on them before bed to see how persistent these little green bastards can be. Didn't feed or water my plants today. Soil was still a little damp and I'm planning to do a feed with some mycorrhizae tomorrow. I think one of my bonsais may be on its way out. The stem can barely support the weight of the leaves. I can't even think about trying LST on it. Will continue to monitor it over the next few days and perhaps try to give it some structure to give it a fighting chance. 12/8 - Day 23 Feeding day. Mixed 1/2 veg nutes (FF Big Bloom & Grow Big), Great White mycorrhizae and Cal-Mag in a gallon of distilled water. Fed my 5 gallons about 48oz of water each. My remaining two bonsais got about 8oz each. I forgot to adjust the pH on the water before feeding. I tested the runoff on my bonsais and they were recording a 5.7pH with 649ppm. My 5 gallons are looking nice and healthy. My bonsais were looking droopy, perhaps due to watering. 12/9 - Day 24 No water was added. Made small adjustments to the training wire to try and give the lower canopy a chance to grow to the same height as the main stem. 12/11 - Day 26 Watered my 5 gallons with a half gallon of distilled water and gave 8oz of water to each of my bonsais.

Seeing yellowing/browning on the fan leaves for my bonsais. Is this a calcium deficiency?

Hi mate, the first thing that come to mind when i saw your leaves is overwater. This droopiness to me is a sign that the plant in not getting oxygen. From the large fan leaf on the pic see that there is also a ph imbalance. So my course of action would be, first to let the soil dry out, and see if the leaves go back to their normal position (like praying) all up. Then I would flush the medium with a phed water. If all go well those leaves that were affected wont recover but the plant will

I love the bonsai pot idea! I’ll be checking in on this, I got the same ILGM zkittlez auto seeds in an comparison between a 5 gallon pot and 1 qt pot going right now.. good luck. PS I’ve never used FF ocean forest but my understanding is it is quite “hot” or full of a lot of fertilizers so that could have been the issue in the beginning. My understanding is that the seedling has all it needs nutrient wise stored within itself for the first 7-10 days at least.

@SmokeableHobby, yeah that green wire is def my favorite way to train for sure. Experimenting with different training techniques is fun too.. just different ideas and ways to get light to the lower canopy and manipulate the natural structure/growth of the plant in general. Let me know if you need any ideas

@Ezzjaybruh, I do the exact same thing...just sit in front of my tent and stare mindlessly at my plants. Meditating on their progress. I took your advice and ordered some of the green training wire - great stuff! Started experimenting with LST. Will post my progress in the next week.

@SmokeableHobby, hahaha good point.. I was the same way on my first grow, peeking under my DWC at the roots every hour and sometimes just still just sit in front of the tent doing nothing but staring at them. As far as LST products, the main thing is being able to secure whatever you are using to the pot, and that may be hard with those bonsai pots.. I just use the green plastic coated wires, they are real nice. Then there are these cool yo yo type devices I got on Amazon that you can attach to the poles on your tent and they have like fishing wire you connect to your plant..

@Lazuli, I also had a CREE COB LED (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08B8T8C72) in the tent that put off another 100w. I was using this light exclusively for my bonsais but then my 5 gallons grew way bigger than I thought they would and ended up using the CREE for supplemental light once I was a week or two into flower.

Looking good! I’ve personally started to wait until the bottom of the plant has a bit more rigidity such that it can remain somewhat upright while the top nodes are bent over - before I start training but certainly no harm starting early! It all depends what you are trying to accomplish - even tho frankly I’m usually just winging it and seeing how it reacts haha. It is amazing how quickly they tilt back up towards the light tho huh?

Man, I’m starting to get some similar weird deficiency/toxicity issues on my zkittlez.. hope it clears up for ya.. buds look great!

@Ezzjaybruh, appreciate the encouragement, I sure hope it clears up. Learning a lot from this experience but will be really bummed if I can't turn things around before harvest. Feels like these deficiencies came out of nowhere and at the worst possible time. Hope things turn around for you as well!

I swear it’s crazy the few times I’ve gone on a vacay for even days while growing, my plants seem to thrive and grow quicker.. probably just in my head but it’s always cool to not see them for a few days and return to see all the growth that has occurred. Looking good tho!

@Ezzjaybruh, you're so right - I had that same thought when I came back and saw the progress. It's kind of a ego-check. Here I am paying all this attention to my plants, thinking I am curating conditions for their optimal growth and then I come back after a few days of basically ignoring them and they look better than ever. I suppose it is called "weed" for a reason. It will grow despite our best efforts...not necessarily because of them haha. Gotta admit the week 8 report for your 5g Zkittlez has me feeling all kinds of impatient. Love seeing those calyxes and sugar leaves starting to frost up... an encouraging sign of things to come!
