Nice and steady growth over the past week. Roots started to show at the bottom of the small pots. Transferred plants into 9L airpods on day 12. Fingers crossed all keeps on going well. Also started feeding Biobizz Root Juice, Bio-Heaven and Acti-Vera on two occasions.

It has been an interesting and somewhat tough week. For some reason, I forgot to check and adjust the PH of the water after repotting. This means that I watered once with a PH over 9,4 which left one set of leaves with some nasty signs of PH fluctuations. Luckily only one set of leaves was affected and the plants seem to have recovered well. For another watering, I stuck to the Biobizz schedule but all three plants showed very light signs of nutrient burn. The tip of all new leaves turned light green. But again, luckily nothing more seemed to happen and the plants recovered well. Some great growth has happened over the last week. I also introduced a CO2 bag during lights on time. I will be topping all three plants within the next week.

This week I topped both Shogun plannts. All three plants have recovered well from the topping this week and some proper growth has occurred. I watered once with water only (PH of 6,3) to give the plants some time to recover from the PH fluctuation and the ever so slight signs of nutrient burn. It seemed to be the right thing to do since the plants look very healthy and grow very well! Looking forward to the next week as always ;)

In weeks 3 & 4 I had a mishap with the PH level and the beautiful large fan leaves showed signs of nutrient deficiencies and PH fluctuation. I thought it would only get better from there because I paid a lot of attention to the plants and measured the PH exactly before each feed. Unfortunately, I noticed even greater signs of stress around day 29/30. Most leave tips started to wilt and dry off. The scariest thing was when I noticed that the tiny new growth sites became gray and died off. I read a lot about signs of stress and came to the conclusion that it must be a nutrient deficiency and/or PH fluctuation. I couldn't explain it because I had measured the PH level meticulously. Then I had the thought that the PH meter might be out of scope and might need recalibration. Upon recalibration I came to the conclusion that the PH meter must have been out of scope by almost 1 full point, giving a too high reading. Now I had an explanation about the issues I was seeing on the plants but I was worried that the stress was too high already. I took the Biobizz advice and sprayed the plants twice with a solution of acti-vera and fish-mix plus I watered with a PH of 6,3 after calibrating the PH meter even though watering wasn't quite necessary yet. But I decided that trying to correct the PH level was more important than waiting another two days before watering. The decision seemed to pay off. The plants recovered more and more from day to day and even the new growth sites seem to recover well. I now have some signs of overwatering but that will sort itself out as well within the next few days. I need to switch to flowering because I am running out of space but I will wait another 3 - 6 days in the hope that the plants will recover even more in order to handle the switch better. I seem to be on a good path even though the plants do not look as beautiful as they could. Lets hope for the best for the next weeks.

This grow showed me that it is not always as straightforward and easy as my first grow was. After all the issues I experienced between weeks 4 & 5 I thought it would only get better from here on. Oh boy was I wrong. I had planned to switch to flower after week 5 and defoliated to prepare for flowering. Unfortunately one of the topped main stems of one of the Shogun plants snapped clean off and the attempt to have it grow back on failed. Due to this, all three babies were under a lot of stress. All three plants were defoliated but I had to let the one Shogun with the snapped stem recover. So I decided to let the ladies recover during week 6. Unfortunately, I saw nutrient and PH issues once again plus I realized that the substrate was too wet and I planned to let the substrate dry out a bit which never seemed to happen even though I wasn't watering. But I so dearly wanted to water again to straighten out the PH issues and signs of nutrient deficiencies. During hours of reading up I finally realized that the issues I was noticing were 100% self-induced. During previous research, I came across CO2 bags and I had decided to use one for my next grow. It is to be said that I am growing in a Home Box S (65cmx65cmx120cm). So I hung the CO2 bag up in the tent, switched the ventilator off, and left the babies sitting in most probably extreme levels of CO2 (I don't have a CO2 meter) and without any airflow. This lead to VPD (Vapour Pressure Deficit) issues. The ladies were unable to exchange gases due to the high humidity and the missing airflow which meant they were unable to uptake nutrients which stunted growth and lead to the issues shown in the pictures. Not to forget about all the other stress the plants were under. Once realized I chucked the CO2 bag (which was misused during veg anyway...), switched the ventilator and fan on, and let ladies breathe. They seemed to recover well but now I was a bit overzealous with the feeding and probably fed a bit too much. I stuck to the Biobizz instructions but the ladies had some problems getting to a healthy state. Especially the Shogun plant with the snapped stem is lacking behind in growth. The main stem is bigger than the main stems of the other two plants but the rest of the plant does not quite want to grow as well. The latest new growth seems to be healthy and the canopy looks lush and dense. I will have to switch to flower now going into week 6 since I am running out of space. Both Shogun and Critical have a fairly long flowering period and I hope that I will get the problems under control for the remainder of the grow. Tips and thoughts of all you fellow growers are welcome!!

The first week of flowering has gone great! For once the issues seem to have been straightened out and growth was good plus all three ladies are looking healthy. I've added 2 Secret Jardin TLED 26W Flowering LEDs. Defoliated on day 7 of flowering at the beginning of the lights on cycle. Ladies grew well and recovered well over the following 12 hours. Looking promising.

Another great week has passed. The ladies are healthy and have started developing good buds which I am looking forward to watching grow. I defoliated again on day 21 of flower and removed some of the lower smaller branches (which hurt quite a lot) I am looking forward to further development.

The past week came again with challenges and had worried at least twice. 1. Power Cut Unfortunately, we had a power cut and I have a mechanic timer plug that stopped running when the power was cut. Power was cut 30min before lights out and remained off for around 4hours. Once the power came back on the lights switched on again for the remaining 30min in the middle of the dark cycle. Then I made some mistake when correcting the mechanical timer and the timing cycle was completely off, which I noticed by chance as I walked past the tent during the dark period. I was stressing a lot, wondering if it might trigger the ladies to re-veg or even become hermaphrodites and develop pollen sacks. The lighting issue was resolved within 36h and I monitored the ladies closely over the next days. Luckily the lighting issue didn't seem to cause any real issues. All looks fine. What a relief! 2. Nitrogen Toxicity I noticed some extreme leave claw/curl on the shogun lady with the snapped main stem. She recovered fairly well from the main stem snapping but seem seems to be way more sensitive than the other shogun lady. I stuck strictly to the Biobizz nutrient schedule which I have also done with my previous auto flower grow during which I had not a single issue. But this 70% sativa strain is definitely nutrient-sensitive. I watered twice with PH neutral water in the attempt to resolve the issue. I will leave out the Biobizz Bio-Grow with the next few feedings in an attempt to reduce nitrogen build-up. Even though Biobizz recommends Bio-Grow during flower. The Critical lady seems to have no problems with the feeding schedule and is less nutrient-sensitive. I noticed that there might have been a slight stunt in development due to the lighting issue and feeding issue during this week but all in all, I seem to have been lucky. No major long-lasting issues seem to be present. I am welcoming any tips, tricks, thoughts, and ideas from you guys.

It´s been a good week! The ladies have settled into nice growth and bud development. I am able to say that the past week went uneventful, which is a good thing. The Shogun with the extreme leave claw has not recovered the claw but the new growth seems to be normal. The pestiles are insane. Super long and strong. I guess that is a promising sign. I have not fed Biobizz Bio-Grow to the Shogun ladies because that seems to be a nitrogen driver and they obviously have issues with the nitrogen. The Strain info states that Shogun is a strain that needs a lot of nutrients but my experience now is that they are fairly nutrient-sensitive while the Critical strain is more nutrient resilient. All three ladies have started to become quite frosty and the buds are developing from day to day. Love this stage of the grow :)

The ladies showed signs of Nitrogen deficiency which made me realize that I haven't been feeding them frequently enough and enough in general. I noticed a stunted bud development. To be honest I expected the buds to be way bigger at this time. The big factor is probably that I haven't been feeding them enough for the setting they are growing in. The large air-pots would have required me to feed more volume. I think I have hampered growth and development by starving them without realizing it. I am feeding more since a couple of days and I hope for some positive development for the next and last few weeks.

Another good week has passed. Ladies have been hungry and I've been feeding well. Development is great and we are nearing the end. Trichomes are still mostly clear. According to royal queen seeds Critical has a flowering period of 7 - 9 weeks and shogun has a flowering period of 9 - 11 weeks. Most trichomes of the Critical are still clear so I think that she will take another 2 weeks. Shogun will take a couple of weeks longer.

I love the big buds :) Most trichomes still clear. I am getting a bit impatient now but at the same time I am happy that they are taking time and stacking more weight :) At this point, there is not much more to report.

Health and happiness all around. Critical shows some amber trichomes which led me to flush her on day 107 (day 61 of flower). She'll go another week or so before harvest. Trichomes of the Shogun ladies are mostly cloudy with some amber here or there. I started feeding them water only on day 109 (day 63 of flower). I might leave them a week longer than the Critical or maybe even harvest them on the same day. It all depends on Trichome development plus I only have one tent for drying and growing. Growing and drying at the same time is somewhat difficult...

That was a challenging grow. Not only took it some time but it challenged me during the growth cycle at week 3 - 6 with PH fluctuations and leave claw. Learned a lot!!! The two shogun ladies took only about 10 weeks of 12/12. I would have expected them to take a bit longer since Royal Queen Seeds suggests 9 - 11 weeks of flowering. The one with two main stems showed quite a lot of amber trichomes but actually looks to have put on a little less weight than the one with the snapped main stem (one remaining). She has mostly cloudy trichomes but has put on more weight. I decided to harvest both Shogun and the Critical together even though they were at slightly different stages. I am looking forward to see if I will notice a difference in the effect. My hope is to have one which gives a great high without too much of a stoned, couch lock effect.
