HPS to LED Lights

Hi guys, looking to start using LEDs. I am currently using 400W HPS lights. I'd like to be using 600W but the room simply gets too hot. I am looking at LED lighting but unsure of what LEDs to go for. As I am using 400w/600w HPS what LED would be like for like replacement? Thanks

What's up man, glad ur looking into led first of all, when u finally get it awitched over and dialed in, I'm sure u will be impressed, by both how happy ur plants are and by how much more pleasant a visit u ha e to the electric company every month to pay ur bill. I know the whole initial payment when making the change is sort of frightening, but as with all things quality, esp with this, you get what u pay for. Steer clear of Amazon sellers claiming their led lights cover a rediculously huge area cuz it's simply not true. And if u do decide to cheap out and try an Amazon type led light to start off with you won't be using it for long, although they work, and some of them work well, they defeat the whole purpose of making the switch cuz most of the cheaper LEDs put off soon much heat, by the time u put enough of them in your room to actually cover the area but growing in, u will be putting off just as much heat as before if not more. I reviewed 2 companies lights that sell on Amazon, and although the put out a very impressive yeild, their claimed 1 light that would cover a 68"x68" area BARELY covered a 2'x2' so I ended up having to purchase an additional 3 lights to actually conduct the product review and have it worth my time. By the time all was said and done trying to "save money" I actually ended up spending more due to additional products to deal with the heat they put off, and they were FAR FROM efficient.. my advice is if ur gonna make the change buy something quality, HLG is a great company with unrivaled customer service. And their products are outstanding. You will save some money if you shop around and look for sales and build your own, but it all depends on what ur trying to cover for canopy area. Cob kits and rapid led also have good products, and atrium lighting also makes a product alot like HLG QB288 That they sell in a diy type kit. Just do t try to cheap out cuz ur just gonna spend more in the long run. Spider farm actually sells on Amazon and their new lights actually look pretty damn good but I think they lack the intensity of other nigger name companies. But again it all depends on what ur trying to do.. sry for rambling on lol.. but I can tell you since I went to hlg I'm covering almost 3-4x as much canopy area PROPERLY, I mounted the driver's outside my room so there's almost no heat to speak of inside the room, and my electric bill went from 500$+ down to 200... Their products are killer and their customer service.... Well it's really nothing at all like even dealing with a company, it's more like calling your grandma and asking to come over for dinner, they're friggin unbelievable.

Mars hydro sp250 in a 2 x 4 flower is perfect. Not too expensive, and is a really nice light. Use it myself and I love it.

Everyone seems to have their favorites but I feel COB's and quantums are the best bet. Whatever lamp you choose, try to ensure the footprint of the new lamp is the same or better then the 400w MH/HPS. LED's have a little less core spread then the classic gas lamps. A 110-150 Watt quantum should replace the 400w in a 2x4 space. 225-275W (roughly) will cover a 4x4 space. I'm no expert on COB's, but I do know a bit about qauntums and a lot of growers using Spider Farmer, Mars Hydro and HLG quantum board series'. Quality lamps, good warranties and roughly the "same" but solid specs. I wish you luck as this is a big decision. If you want to drop me a line in PM to discuss options and price ranges, go for it👍. Cheers

This is also a slight cheaper option of COB technology. A little bit more hands on and Diy. Both use Cree Cobs so both are gonna yield and be more energy efficient then your HPS light. https://www.rapidled.com/horticulture-kits/
