usually it's best to measure the PPFD values to ensure getting the right distance to the plant.. too little and they won't flower well, however too high of a PPFD value (above around 800 without added CO2) is also not good..
now i understand that par meters can be quite expensive (i got one from Amazon for 30 bucks.. Shane from "Migro" made a YT video comparing this specific model to his expensive Apogee Quantum sensor, and provided a "conversion factor", to get right values.. might want to check that video (but i think your light is a "blurple" one, right? then this won't really help too much)
before i've had the par meter, what i did was hold the bottom of my under-arm underneath the light, and looked at the output, and when it either didn't get warm, or i didn't feel like i got blinded too much by looking at my arm, i used that as a distance..
it's obviously not as good as measuring, but i was surprised how well this judged distance actually did with my 50w COB (about 20 to 25cm)
