Oops- might have messed up and have wrong lighting???

I might have confused the two strains I’m growing and have been treating a photo period as if it was an auto (18/6). In week 5 lots of preflower but no real top buds formed yet, I’m wondering if I screwed up with too much light. Should I switch to 12/12? Will 18/6 hurt a photo

Hi there! Hmmmm.. I think you are mistaken now and everything is like it should be. If you are giving 18hours of light and 6 hours of darkness and the plant is pre-flowering then it most definitely is an autoflower strain. Photoperiodic cannabis will start to flower only when there is 12 hours or more uninterrupted darkness. When you want to flip an photo in to the flowering you change the lights to 12/12 and only after this the transformation begins. So 18(lights on)/6(lights off) will not hurt your photo but is actually considered optimal light schedule for vegetation!! 👌

Thanks Shagrath. I do have some photo periods that are also showing pistils in the nodes but surely they have not been in absolute darkness for 12 hours in their 5 week lifetime so how is it they are preflowering? How do strains that are grown outdoors switch to flower without the strict 12 hour darkness phase? Thanks for the help
