Light defoliation?

Should I defoliate to open her up a lil bit? She is pretty bushy and some of the lower bud sites r not getting light. If I did I would do it very lightly, jus looking for advice and input plzz. Would it do more harm then good? I've read mixed opinions.

Congratulations on such a big bush. That's a bush that would do the 70s proud.đ
I would say definitely go in and give a mild haircut, I'd go with about 20% removal. But I'm also a big believer in cleaning up the bottoms also from unnecessary leaves and bud sites that will be in the shade the whole time and just be little larfy buds. I say cut those away also and let that energy go back to the main buds.đ
