Why should the tap root grow for some days before potting?

Not a problem, but I'm eager to learn: Most tutorials recommend to let the tap root grow to about 2.5 cm before potting. Does anybody have a rationale for that? To me this sounds counter-productive (light protection for roots, correct orientation of seed). What am I missing?

The 2.5 is all preference, I agree with you on planting the seed soon as it cracks and letting the tap grow in the medium.

I germinate for around 24 hours in a glass of water, and throw the seed in pellets, the second I notice the shell have broken. Usually takes 24 - 36 hours for it to pop its head out after that. - I do it, cuz I don't want to touch the taproot and potentially harm it with my retarded fingers. And so far, I've had a 100% success rate doing it that way, so I'm not gonna try something else. I don't know why people would do it any other way. But I guess its preference.

Best to be in the dirt right after the root pops and must be planted the right way so that the plant does not try to grow downwards. Where the root comes out of the seed has to be pointed upwards, the root then does a u turn down into the dirt and the seed head when it starts rising to the top the split seed is forced open by the dirt as it rises to life. Cheers friend
