Main-lining: Where on the Plant to Remove New Growth Tips? When to Stop Cutting?

Main-lining tutorials suggest removing new growth tips from the manifold (red, orange, blue) to avoid wasting energy; does this apply to the main colas (white) after the final topping? Should I remove or keep growth tips that emerge from nodes at each level?

Should I remove some of the dense foliage as I start LST, or wait? Other suggestions appreciated!The Durban Poison and Jack 47 are very dense, with tight nodes. I’m beginning LST this week to get more light to more of the branches, but should I prune some of the excess foliage? If so, how do I decide what to remove? Did I wait too long to top?I just topped, main-lined, and defoliated. The stem is about the thickness of a pencil, and the nodes are very tightly packed.
The reason I waited so long to top was because I wanted to clone the cuttings and give them to a friend.
