How to increase successful cloning rate

TokyoStreetstarted grow question 3 years ago
I am cloning with about 50% success rate. - I used perlite/peat mix as a medium as I am lacking the Rockwool cubes. - Temps remain steady at ~24degC/75degF - RH range from 75-90% - Considering heat mat, wonder if this will help Would love any recommendations/tips for cloning!

I get over 90 percent sucess and all I do i cut the branch I want to make a clone put it ro water cup make 45 degree cut under water dip into cloning solution place in rapid rooter. Into the dome with a heat mat and a week later they have roots coming out the rapid rooter. I use them for all my seeds too great product. You can also shave a bit of the stem before dipping but I've done without with no visible change. Cut cut dip plant dome and done.

Good luck. Cloning is a trick of the trade to get high success rate. I've found in my years that strains can make a difference for successful clones too. Ie: 3 blue kings was 90% , chemdog 40%. Low light levels, humidity, temp and rooting gel is all can recomend.

There are also things you can do to the clones to help them root. Cut it on a sharp angle to Maximize the end size first off, then you can very carefully cut a few very tiny slits at the bottom of the stem, just enough to break the outer layer, then dip in rooting gel. I have also had good results with shaving the end slightly as well with a razor blade too then dipping in rooting gel.

Get some rapid rooter cubes. Less likely to damp off (rockwool is notorious for this issue). A heating pad will always help. It also matters where your cuttings are coming from. Some growers snip the finger tips and this supposedly helps a bit. Clones can also look like they're dying but they are actually fine, their old leaves are just dying, so you may be writing them off too soon.

I’ve had almost 100% success from a diy bubble cloner I made and used for years. You can also buy them premade now on Amazon too for around $40 I think. They are basically a hydroponic machine made from a smaller plastic bin with holes cut in the top to fit in some custom cut pool noodle peices I made to hold the clones in the holes in the top of the bin. Then all you need is a aquarium air pump and an air stone in the plastic bin about half full of water. The air stone will spit water at your clone stems and you will have dam near 100% success every time. In 7-14 days you will have a nice root ball and you can pop it out of the pool noodle insert and into whatever medium you want. But for $40 on Amazon you cant go wrong with a prebuilt one. CheersπŸ’¨
