Split Stalk Down Center

Arcticflavor
Arcticflavorstarted grow question 3 years ago
Stalk split down the center due to stressing it too hard too fast. I have it secured in place but it's about 3 weeks into flowed and I'm worried about its effect as well as if it can heal.

It will be all OK, as long as it is still attached to the main stem. The plant will "heal" itself and continue flowering without any issues. Resist the urge to cover up or fill the split with anything, as that will just encourage mould/fungus/disease to attack the "wound". One thing though, I would suggest to remove the wire and replace it with something with a bit of give/elasticity/stretch in it, otherwise as the plant grows, the (inflexible) wire may cut into the stem and this will cause death through "ring barking/girdling" as it stops the flow of water and nutrients up the stem/branch. Either something like "grafting" tape, elastic thread/tape or even pantyhose will work. Just try to be careful when replacing the wire that the split doesn't open up too much. Maybe support/tie up both sides both sides of the plant first, before removing the wire. Even if you just put a loop of string around the whole top section of the plant, that will work too, just be careful that she doesn't open up like a clam! Whichever way you decide on doing this, just try to prevent any further damage. Actually, I have had plants break branches before and have just left them without doing anything and the plant has continued to grow as though nothing had happened! Hope this helps.... Organoman.

Wrap it up more I just split mine and wrapped it up slightly tight and a week later just two individual leaves fell and the plant kept growing but I wrapped it up within 3 minutes I just unwrapped yesterday and it healed itself and covered itself in white stuff

Truth is, you can’t be entirely certain what will take place after this kind of crap happens. The early stress for some strains can result in hermie issues, not to mention significant growth and developmental delays. You have to look at this as unintended, high stress training though. It was unintended yes - but certainly not cause to eject on the grow. If properly addressed and bandaged (the wire ties you’ve used and how you’ve tied is pretty much how I’d have done it as well), the additional stress on the plant (much like supercropping in this phase but more severe) can, and in a lot of cases will create the right conditions for an increase in bud production. The problem with any kind of stress inducing training is always going to be timing. no matter the approach, it’s always a calculated risk. Should be fun to see what happens - good luck!👍😎

It'll be fine. You did good on the bandaid! It'll heal and when the buds form is when you gotta worry because that's when it's gunna split 😳 let it go when you flower then re support when needed when buds get fat and juicy 👍👊👌

Damn! I did the exact same thing on one of my last grows, I even used the same soft garden tie to repair it 😂 it ended up healing and became one of my largest colas at harvest! Good luck! 👍😎
