Has anybody tried this technique of planting a seed directly in soil and wrapping a heat mat around the pot. Seemed to work very well for my orange sherbet auto. Or am I going burn my house down trying to be clever?

Hi !

This is how I usually start : the mini-dome help to maintain hydrometry to a high level and the sprout like it. But you must be careful because your plant still need air to breath when first leaves start to appears. So you must have intake holes in the bottom and outtake on top of the lid. Most propagator have them, with kind of shutters on the top ones to manage evaporation.

Seems like a great idea. I don't know how effective it is, but I can't think of any negatives. I assume that mat doesn't make too much heat...
