I would advise against defoliation, but you can still do some well considered lollipopping without freaking your plants out too much.
Defoliation just decreases the amount of energy your plant can make, thereby slowing growth and potentially leading to smaller growth too.
Lollipopping involves removing small and spindly growth and reduces yield in the strictest sense, however lollipopping does mean not having to deal with the small shitty buds and does not increase your yield through the main flowers growing extra big due to no small shitty buds. Plants do not channel energy, all energy is used throughout the entire plant and the notion that removing leaves or small shitty buds will cause energy to be channelled into bud growth is misguided and fanciful.
So, I would suggest you avoid defoliation, but some light well considered lollipopping is still a viable option and harmless in the big picture.
