Is 500 ppfd on new seedlings ok?

My light dimmer only lowers to 500 ppfd. I’m starting autoflower seedlings in a space tote before I move them into my perpetual harvest tent. I’m currently propping the light on its side so that the indirect light only hits around 300-400, as an attempt to reduce light bleaching.

Don't forget that it's not only light intensity (PPFD), time also plays a role but 300-400 is an OK amount. Seedlings "can" be started in low light like many recommend but out in nature many sprouts first light is full sun and they do ok. I will sometimes lower the light level if I want to get the plant to stretch a bit more and increase the spacing between nodes which makes low stress training easier. If there is a lot of light the plant, depending on genetics, may grow shorter and stockier than you would like but can be a good thing in a small grow space.

The way I look at it, if the back of my hand feels comfortable under the light at the distance the plant is going to be, then it's good. People worry to much about the light. Plants outside germinate and the seedlings are under direct sunlight from the get go., and they thrive..You can,t really simulate the sun with lights. Just keep them were the light heat isnt hot on them. Cheers
