Another week or so won't cause any massive increase in weight, maybe a few grams, all growth has basically stopped by now and the flowers are only maturing/ripening further since they are only getting closer to death. You should really be deciding your harvest timing based on what type of effect your prefer, head high or body stone. Remember too, not all plants will produce amber trichomes and this is why I prefer the more reliable indicator of plant maturity, pistil colour, over judgement based solely on trichome colour.
Harvest now/soon (about 95-98% brown pistils) for a more mind bending head high.
Harvest later (100% brown pistils) for a more couch locking and sleepy body stone.
Let your preferred type of effect guide your harvest timing.
Once the flowers approach 100% brown pistils, the plants' metabolism slows considerably, meaning she is unable to produce/replace THC faster than the THC is breaking down into CBD and CBN.
CBD and CBN are what produce the more heavy and sleepy (or lethargic) body type of stone.
While there are still 5-10% white pistils, the plant is able to maintain peak THC production levels, meaning flowers harvested then will give you a more psychoactive and brain bending head high.
I would also advise against placing plants in total darkness before harvest, this is an unproven myth that does not scientifically pass the test and is largely "ghetto science".
A plant placed in total darkness for days will basically shut down, causing a non existant metabolism, leading to even more THC breaking down into CBD and CBN, producing flowers with reduce psychoactivity and enhanvced sleepiness due to the elevated CBD and CBN levels.
Placing the plants in complete darkness for days right before harvest would be the same as not eating for three days before then having to somehow be expected to run a marathon running race.
Besides, plants can not make energy without light, or have stored "energy reserves" either, so I do not know how they would ever achieve a growth spurt without being able to photosynthesise. This is basic plant biology 101.
Anyway, hope this helps, Organoman.
