Hey Growmie, Yes, 6-8 inches is way too close, even most companies recommend it being higher, for a plant this age I would raise the light to about 18" to 24" inches above the canopy, If you keep it this close you're definitely going have some heat/light stress going on. It could be too close or it might be OK. I have seen more variation among burple lights than with white LED's. Pay attention to the top parts of your plant for signs that it is getting too much light or heat.

I used to put 3 extra lights 20 cm below canopy, leave many large leaves at the top and lollypop 30%. 30% is definitely not enough even with those 20w LEDS (50% is probably better).
