Don't spend premium top dollar on a milwaukee or bluelab pen if you don't plan to keep your pen in the appropriate storing solution you need to buy, and the fancy expensive cleaning solution for the probe. Probe issues are number 1 reason for cheap pen failures. Without these products, forget any advantage of a good pen, and say good buy to their warranty. Sadly, the cost of these solution are more than the one of a basic cheap pen found on amazon.

less work with strips in most contexts and get enough info. no screwing around with callibration, no stock fluids to keep etc... but if you use it frequently, a ph pen becomes better option.

the nicer devices are fine.. but you have to buy callibration fluid and what not.. it ends up being a pain. if not stored right you can scratch the diode etc etc.. if you only need to spot check and with gardening you don't need high resolution pH testing... i'd suggest some 100-pack of strips. get the ones with 4 colors, so it is easier to distinguish the pH. it doesn't have to be a full 0-14 scale but likely get that anyway. Those can resolve down to .5 pH ranges and easily distinguishable. Anyway.. this is like and it'll last a few years.. if testing many things multiple times a day, go with one of the ph pens. Follow the directions for storage of the device religiously. it will allow you to get the full life out of the product. you don't need an exact pH for this sort of task. (gardening) a general idea is good enough.. make sure it doesn't swing drastically is really all that is needed.

Milwaukee works like a charm for me. I prefer those with 2 calibrations points eg the Milwaukee 51. It’s less than 40€ for this one, and it comes with calibration solutions. And if unfortunately you break the probe, you can replace it for 20€ without changing the whole device.

Milwaukee Instruments, Blue labs, or Aspera. I use the Milwaukee instruments one because I like the probe and it was slightly cheaper than the blue labs. Aspera I used for a year and while good, it wasn't as good as the Milwaukee Instruments probe.
