think greenorganicgermany sums up the range well... slightly acidic, don't go nuts.
distilled white vinegar is another option that is inexpensive and commonly in a home already. Acetic acid is just carbons and hydrogens, so you don't have to worry about any imbalance with nutes. 5% is still fairly strong, and will only need "mL" per liter type dosing.. trial and error.
pH scale is log10 -- so 7 is 1:1 h3o+:oh-, 6 is 10:1 h3o:oh, 5 is 100:1 h3o:oh.. etc. and vice versa above 7. What does this mean? it'll change very quickly at first but then will take much more to move the needle the further you go from 7.
good products will often be buffered... should take care of it for you. definitely don't overspend on "ph-up" or "Ph-down" products, simply look at their ingredients and it'll be something you can find at supermarket or already in your home. these things are ubiquitous and the active ingerdients are an equivalent to generic Rx.. you can count on them to be equals, if the same molecule. there's no "better" hcl, etc... it's always just hcl (simplified... molarity matters).
