Slow Growing Seedlings in Rockwool

BornHigh
BornHighstarted grow question 5 years ago
I have placed these seeds in Rockwool approximately a week ago, and I made sure that the water saturated into the Rockwool before planting was 5.5pH. What else would cause them slow sprouting? Or it that how long it usually takes? I’m new to Hydroponics.

From seed five days is not unusual. Time is given as 3-7 days in most sources. And that is just to sprout. I would be careful with the nuets at this stage, 25% of the low dose would not be out of line. Kill the cal-mag for now or cut that dose it does add some nitrogen which can be dangerous to seedling if too much used. Good luck feel free to msg any time.

I sprout in rockwool as well, in the exact same manner as you I figure. I experienced slow growth myself too this time for the first week, but soon found it was from running my brand new lights at half watts (veg only state). So it made me wonder: If you haven't seen so slow growth before, then you should probably also consider other factors like the light, temps, feeding or something entirely third. That is, if you are doing something else off perhaps. Good luck with it.

Be very careful of what advice you take, even your own. The best advice is never give up on a plant. Give it some time bruv, it's only been a week. I got a killer plant now that took 2 weeks to see a root! Do NOT put nutrients. (unless you see yellow leaves!) I'm just a newb, but with my 3 plants I have learned alot.

have you fed them yet? as soon as a seedling opens its first set of leaves it needs feeding it can take 3/4 strength straight away 2 days later up to full strength i always use rockwool just the inch block never have a problem on a bubbler you will need to hand water to get the roots down your first leaves will probaly brown out cos u havent fed them but dont worry

Rockwool is a pretty tricky grow medium to start seeds in. When using rockwool it is important to soak the rockwool overnight in pH adjusted water to make sure it is stabilized. I have learned that it is better to soak the seeds in water until they crack and then plant them in your rockwool. This gives me great success. Your seedlings that are growing are looking great. If the issue is with the rockwool cubes that have no seedlings I would gently dig in them to see if they are sprouted. If not them suerge them in water with a pH if 6 for a couple hours then take them out and give them a couple days to sprout. Be sure not to overwater them the first few days. Feel free to message me if you need any help. Good luck!

You're on right pace. In our experience, some seeds take longer than others and vice versa. Your seedling looks nice an healthy so you're on the right track. Happy growing.
