One seems to be variegated but looks heathy. Another is a bit yellow, will be adding recharge soon which will hopefully help if it's a pH issue. There hasn't been enough runoff to test soil pH yet. pH going in is 6.5.
Good growth, still trying to get the light setting just right. The one blackberry still looks yellow and spindly. I think it's a calcium/ph issue. Should have enough runoff tomorrow to check it against the other plants.
All water going in is pH'd in the range of 6.3-6.6. Only nutrients have been recharge and a very small dose of CalMag.
All of the plants are showing white pistils forming. We also started LST. Unfortunately I accidentally broke the main stem of one of the NLs. Luckily it wasn't a full break, so we taped it up. It's recovered well and has actually grown a bit.
The yellowish/weak Blackberry greened up somewhat after giving it some CalMag and veg nutrients. The Fox Farm CalMag contains a small amount of nitrogen so it should give a little extra boost. However this plant still looks hungry. Unfortunately I mistakenly bought the hydro version of Grow Big, which has half the amount of nitrogen as the soil version, and I'm also giving half doses. I think we'll add some worm castings to improve the nitrogen levels during the flowering stretch.
This is day 25 since we started germination.
The Blackberry plants look very good. BB2 has recovered from a nitrogen deficiency and is putting out nice buds. BB1 shows strong flowering as well. The NLs are both farther behind.
NL2 started with variegation, and shows weird growth patterns with tons of small leaves. We defoliated it, since the leaves were packing together in thick masses.
NL1 looks pretty stressed in the area around and connected to the main stem injury. Luckily it has multiple colas even though they're shorter. Hopefully it will heal as time goes on.
Humidity is too low for this early in flower, so I'll try to bring it up a bit.
Buds are fattening up, but I burned the plants a little with too much food. The BB2 which had a nitrogen deficiency before is looking deficient again, but the buds are still looking good for now.
Planning to flush with a wetting agent, and then cut the nutrients in half. The light is at ~43 DLI. I was worried about the light intensity but I think their main problem right now is nutrient burn. Should've checked the fastbuds schedule more closely because the Fox Farm is much stronger than what their schedule is based on.
We flushed the plants after they showed signs of nutrient burn. We'll feed them 1/4 dose next watering and see how they do. The Blackberries are fox tailing a bit so we reduced the light intensity and raised it a little. Hopefully that stops any more fox tailing.
The NLs are developing much more slowly. The one plant never fully recovered from a break and they're both light stressed. The shorter one is looking better than the other. Hopefully cutting the light helps all of the plants. Getting the light just right has been the hardest part of the grow so far.
The buds on the BBs look and smell amazing. They're dense and covered in trichomes. Smells gassy and earthy with a little sweetness. The NLs have that classic herbal scent which I can't wait to try, but lots of small bud sites. Not sure if that's the strain or all the stress they've been through. Even some larf from those would be better than the garbage mid I smoked back in the day so I'll take it.
The Blackberry's have really fattened up and we aren't seeing signs of burn after feeding in the beginning of the week.
BB2 has struggled off and on since the grow started. Yesterday it was looking very yellow up top but dark green underneath, which we took as a sign that the top buds were dying. We decided to harvest the top buds and leave the healthier lower buds to mature for a while longer. Fortunately the trichomes are pretty cloudy, I think it will be more than potent enough. We smoked a few of the sugar leaves and they got good us baked so I think we'll be happy.
We wet trimmed the fan leaves and hung the buds to dry. They measured 168g wet. Hoping for an ounce once they're dried and trimmed.
BB1 has some very fat looking buds. We're letting it fade now as it's getting close to being ready.
NL1 is still struggling with light stress. It never fully recovered from the stem break. It has tons of bud sites at least. We raised the light and put the BBs on stands. NL2 looks ok, maybe some light stress and a little fade, but lots of heathy buds.
The BB we harvested early turned to out to be around 33g dry. Not bad since there are still a few buds maturing on the plant. Smokes pretty good too. Airy buds but I'm not surprised since we took it early.
The NLs got burned again. Too aggressive with the nutrients, so we flushed them. NL1 was looking pretty bad but has improved a bit. It's the tallest plant and doesn't seem to like the light. When the next BB gets harvested we can try to pull NL1 away from the light.
We harvested a total of 452g wet from the Blackberries. BB2 produced 38g of dry buds. They're airy due to the early harvest and a nitrogen deficiency, but they taste and smoke great. The other BB was much denser, making 254g wet. I'm guessing we'll get 50-60g dry from it, which surpasses our expectations. We also received a large amount of very resinous trim from these Blackberries.
We've only tried the first plant we harvested, which we had to take about a week too early. The buds smell incredible. Very tart, like blackberries with floral undertones. Definitely a unique scent that I haven't experienced with weed before. The flavor is sweet like berries mixed with a little lemon, with kush underneath. Despite the early harvest, we had a nice experience smoking it. Strong, long lasting high that doesn't induce any anxiety, which is something I'm sensitive to. It's a bit more cerebral than I expected and I like that.
The second plant was harvested on time and smells similar to the first plant, but with less sweetness and more kush. I think it'll be a bit earthier. I'll update this again after we give the buds a proper cure.
For our first grow, we're very happy. Good yields so far and good smoke. We learned a lot and we're already planning our next set of plants. We still have two NLs going as well. I screwed up the pH on these a few waterings ago and also burned them when I tried a slightly higher nute dose. NL1 was burned very badly but is hanging in there right now, so we'll see what happens.
We harvested and dried most of the buds from the NL that looked ready to die. Dry smoke was potent and tastes piney and citrusy. Hits hard in the head and then fades to a nice body high. Gave us 44g dry so far.
The other NL is still going and looking ok.
