Aug 14: emergency surgery was needed on the field plant. Didn’t even have time to take pics but one of the primary limbs split apart and was lying on the ground. We had a wind storm last night that downed a tree on a power line (so I had no power today) but it wasn’t too bad of a storm. The limb was still sort of attached and the leaves weren’t dead so it had probably been like that for about 10 hours. I propped it back up with the bucket of water and went and got some duct tape and a Scrog net. It might actually heal, or I will lose a big chunk of my plant. So it goes. My fault for not maintaining it properly as I had been ignoring these field plants and I knew this one needed a trim. I’ll try fixing up a better net soon.
Aug 16: looks like the repair will work as the leaves on the broken limb still look good. 🤞
@Rangaku, best hobby ever. I haven’t liked most of my crosses so far but these were good and particularly the field plant. Have a few good possibilities for next year (if I can do this again next year…tough way to make a buck within the rules). Tough outdoor conditions here in spring and fall but sunny with 17 h daylight near the solstice means it can work great if things are timed properly with the right plants.
