This is a review of White Widow by Growers Choice Seeds. I will discuss the difficulties and what I found to be great qualities. Before I get into this review I’d like to thank my friends who gave me encouragement, advice, and support throughout the grow, that includes those who’re new to my diary channel. Thanks for the love guys, I appreciate all that you do for me :)
Disclaimer: This review is only for the specific seed(s) or strain(s) and does not comprise the breeder as a whole due to environmental factors, phenotypes, genotypes and their effects on quality, user compatibility and yield. Single strain grows are recognized as individual specimens while grows concerning multiple specimens of same genetics and breeder will include detailed logs of each plant. Average statistics on growth rate, stability, health, and quality will also be included. This is to avoid giving companies, private seed breeding organizations and individuals a poor or biased rating, My opinion is based on my experiences throughout the cultivation period and final product quality. Any questions may be asked directly or in comments. Thank you for your understanding, Meus.
I love this stuff! Paired with Voodoo juice the pair make roots phat and dense! My only gripe with this product is that it rots so fast, I only get about 2-3 weeks of use before it goes bad... Still I love the results, best root builder out there!
~ Was this difficult to grow? ~
A little bit, as I stated in my harvest review with Mazar I used the same nutes for all of the plants. This caused some issues since every strain had its own needs. The Mazar was very sensitive to any changes. The White Widow had Purple development due to low temps, and other issues like nute burn, stunting, etc. Super Silver Haze had the most buds, insane amount of frost (compared to others) and best effects. Finally Cbd Blueberry was the least affected by high nute levels (3 times) or any environmental changes. But to the point, White Widow had issues, those of which I mentioned briefly above. Though these difficulties where due to ignorance of the individual needs of each strain, including but not limited to phenotypes. I’ve learned a lot for this project, Mainline techniques, defoliation timing, nute levels in amended soil, curing and more. This has been an exciting though anxious period of time. 19 weeks of work went into this project so far, and I don’t regret a thing.
~ What would I do differently? ~
There’s a few things I’d do differently in hindsight. I never checked the runoff of my plants (ppm-ec, or ph). This led to me experiencing certain consequences from the overuse of nutrients. Another thing is sterilize, sterilize, and you guessed it, sterilize everything! I may have done an okay job, but that’s the point, just okay. Because of the mite and pest issues in the area it makes it essential to serialize the garage every single day. Sounds crazy but I’d experience little to no issues if I worked on the main prevention, sterilization. Finally, patience… I need to take the time to properly attend to my plants. Sometimes I forget to check in on them, and this didn’t help them. I need to set reminders to do maintenance checks, don’t want to keep this habit.
~ How was the effect(s)? ~
Strong is the first thing I’ll say about White Widow. I didn’t anticipate this when I tried the first usable cured product. Wow, you know what I haven’t felt high in years, I was heroically high, learned quick that I can’t use my standard dose with this girl, nope! The effect was intensely cerebral complimented with a fuzzy, tingly sensation in the prefrontal cortex and paleo cortex. Short term memory was affected, this includes being easily distracted by anything. When used in small doses It’s pleasant, clear, and mentally simulating. I started cleaning… Bad idea for someone trying to recover from surgery haha.
~ Final thoughts ~
This White Widow turned out better than I expected, though the taste, smell, and effect is different than the White Widow I was familiar with. This one is so different that is doesn’t seem like White Widow to me. But, times change and it’s hard to maintain a certain profile over 13 years. I’m quite pleased and can’t wait to order more seeds from Grower’s Choice Seeds. I’m glad that I got the chance to grow this strain, I have more seeds so I’ll grow another run of widow soon. Well done GCS, this was very good!
Hello GD my Mazar is having weird patches of shiny stuff that look like snail trails (no snails) it doesn't rub off and I'm not finding the issue online. I'd appreciate any insight into this issue (:
I think that the beginning of a thrips infestation you can buy a spray for that in youre local gardenstore Just spray it on and 2 days later no more bugs and i still stays active in the plant about 3 weeks so if she has les than 3 weeks to go you cant use it cause it Will show in the taste of the buds afterwards
@iMeus, You’ve obviously got a knack for this. We’re happy to be there for questions. You’ve done all the heavy lifting! Keep up the good work. Thank you!
@Tazard, @Silky_smooth, @Quexos, I've updated the diary to include the vlog & notes for the week. I'm getting the pics up soon, thanks for the love guys :)
Plants look nice and healthy. Great genetics! Sorry things aren't going smoothly. You end up going through your stash quicker when your plants are having issues.😨😤😤😎
What about making individual cages for support? Instead of a giant SCRoG, you have 4-5 smaller ones. I wanted to do something similar on my first grow, but the tomato cages that I had were too big for my smart pot. I found out I didn't need them anyway. Stalks were plenty strong enough. One of the growers even has square fabric pots that have dowel stick holders sewn onto the outside.
I haven't gotten any mold on my canvas pots, but the outsides start to get hard water deposits. You could use risers to get the pots off the saucers. That way the canvas isn't soaking up any water that is runoff. Do you reuse your fabric pots? I thought about it, but they are cheap so I buy new ones.
@Quexos, I have a shop vac that I use after every watering to suck up all the extra fluids, works pretty good. I always buy new pots (if they're fabric). I'll do my best to keep this grow as healthy as I can :)
Much love
It looks like you are back on your feet. I hope you are feeling better. Gratz on your harvest. Now you get to enjoy the fruits of your labors.
Despite your difficulties, you did a fine job with this grow. You learned a ton, which will make your next grows that much easier. You'll see.
@Quexos, I'm feeling better! Don't have any pain anymore and now I can do my regular chores without feeling like I'm tearing my abdomen open lol. As you mentioned I learned a lot and I can't wait for the next project :D
Thanks for the love Q!
Nice operation you have going! All of your plants look wonderful! I really hate what the plants look like when they've been mainlined. They look so sad right afterwards. You girls have really bounced back. Are you going to to top again to get more budsites, or are these going to be your mothers?
Are you running both lights now? You have a lot of plants going. I was thinking you might be using both at this point.
Finally, I'm really interested in your seeds. Ordering from Europe is sketchy at best. I've had one order seized and another searched. If I could find a good North American breeder, I'd sleep a lot better after placing a seed order.
Have you thought of saucers of beer for your mite problem? Bulbi's idea is great. Those ladybugs will gobble up those little critters, but ladybugs have a mind of their own. They might decide to beat it down the line at some point. Beer attracts the bugs, and then they can't escape and drown. Diatamaceous earth works well on the soil surface as well. It acts like shards of glass and cuts the little insects to pieces. It is truly a gruesome insect death. I've also seen a few growers use colored sticky strips. They come in different colors to attract different types of pests.
@Quexos, I'll hit up your four questions then I'l touch on the beer, lady bugs, etc.
First: When it comes to topping I have to top my Purple Urkle #1 since I don't have any clones of here whatsoever. So I'll most likely top my others, still debating.
Second: As for being mothers there is no doubt they're great mommies, but it's temporary, these will be flowered when I have established clones of all 5 mother plants.. I'm not gonna lie I'd love to keep these mothers but sadly I don't have the room :(
Third: Lighting, dude this new light is so bright my other light looks like a night light lol, Also this new 3000w takes up most of the lighting real estate, no need for more light. If anything I need more co2 :)
Four: Dude I wish I had my first SSH that I purchased from Growers Choice Seeds. In just three days of germ the SSH seeds had a taproot about 2 inches long! Talk about aggressive growers :) Still these genetics look good so far, I won't know for sure till the end of this grow.
Other Ideas: First to mention I use the stick strips, though they've only caught 2 white flies lol. That Diatomaceous Earth looks good, I'll check that out man 👍 As for beer, well I'm not a beer drinker (love mead, wine, whiskey, etc no beer. I'll give it a shot though :)
Well, that was a hell of a comment! Thank you very much for stopping by and shooting me your ideas 👊
Much love <3
Glad you are shuffling about! Bud video looked great! Those were some really nice colas that you grew.
If the grow didn't turn out the way you planned, you could turn the buds into edibles, and tinctures. You had a large yield. Time to experiment!
This was a really nice yield! 54 grams is very respectable for 1 plant. The buds look excellent. They are very sugary. I would be really happy with this grow.
Your buds look amazing my friend and I believe congratulations are in order. You put in the work and time over the last few months and it has given you some beautiful results. I wish you all the best in your next grow and I'm so happy for you that this grow has turned out as beautiful as it has. Cheers my friend and happy smoking!
First thinks first how are now that your recovering from surgery 🤔😉
