Week 7: Start of the flowering phase Hello dear weed friends, I’m back with my seventh weekly report on my grow with four different strains: Lemon Gelato, Orange Sherbert, Apple Fritter and Bruce Banner. This week was the starting signal for the flowering phase, because I changed my light cycle from 18/6 to 12/12. That was a week earlier than in my first grow, but I think that my plants are ready for it. They have developed very well and are very healthy. But I also had some challenges to master and made some changes to my setup. Here are the details: I noticed a slight over-fertilization, which showed up in yellow tips on some leaves. That was probably because I gave too much fertilizer or because the plants need more water due to the stretch. I therefore watered only with pH-adjusted water and gave only 50 percent of the fertilizer the next time. The time after that I will give 100 percent again, if everything looks good. I expect that the plants will have more thirst in the coming days, until the stretch calms down. The stretch is the phase in which the plants grow very fast in height, to prepare for the flower formation. This can last up to two weeks. I have already noticed that the plants consume more water than before. I spent a lot of time this week defoliating, removing bad shoots and pushing the good shoots into place. I did this to improve the air circulation and light penetration and to concentrate the energy on the upper buds. This is also called lollipopping. I like the canopy very much, even though I have thinned it out a bit now. All plants are doing very well now, also the Bruce Banner has taken its place next to the others. It is still the smallest of all, but it has a nice growth and many shoots. I hope that it will gain some more before the flowers come. For the extreme emergency I have a bigger tent here, which unfortunately arrived too late and I don’t want to give myself the stress of rebuilding if it is not necessary. But even then it will only be a small challenge, because my net consists of individual rods. I can easily adjust or exchange it. I am very confident about the health of the plants and look forward to the following weeks. I am curious about the first signs of flowers and how the different strains will develop. This week I also expanded my setup with a seedling station with a Sanlight 50 Watt full spectrum LED lamp, which I could also use as a later mother place, if legalization in my country progresses further.
