Hey everyone this is going to be my first attempt at an indoor all man made grow. I'm both very nervous and excited. Being that this is so far different from growing outdoors and tried to plan and prepare the best i could...but I also like to Keep It Simple, the best I can.
Thanks to Mephisto I have some Sour Stomper and after looking at other peoples diaries it seemed like the best option. From what I can see it can be fairly small which is perfect for the 2x2x4 tent I'm working with at the moment. If they should get bigger than i plan then I'll have to rethink some things.
Week 1:
Day 1- soaked 2 Sour Stomper autos in water for 12 hours and then transferred them into the wet paper towel method.
Day 2- Morning: 1 seed has cracked open but not released the root yet. Evening: seed 1 has released a tiny amount of root and seed 2 has the crack.
Day 3- Both seeds have roots showing and they're being transferred into 2 spagnum peet moss pods that i soaked in warm water and a 1/4 tsp. Of kelp extract. Added about 1/8th of a tsp of plant success organic granual mycorrhizal fungi....it's supposed to help the root zone, we'll see.
* shoot! I may have screwed up, when i was dropping seed #1 into its pod it turned around and the root isn't pointing downward...hopefully she can correct herself as she was the stronger faster seed.
I have the plants/pods in small plastic cups with plastic wrap over the top to hold in some moisture. They're currently under 2 cfl bulbs and being watched closely for progress...or failure lol .
Day 6- #1 has broken the surface! Woohoo I thought they'd died. Lol
Day 7- #1 continues to sprout, mildly odd coloring, possibly from the mycorrhizal or something else. #2 still remains below the surface.
Thanks for all the support and knowledge everyone, I've learned so much from everyone's diaries. Any advice or opinions are happily welcome.
What a good and bad week all in one.
#1 is doing well, she's opened her first sets of true leaves.
#2 i believe drowned and she's no longer with us.
Since #2 was showing no signs of popping out of the pod I decided to germinate another in her place. This 3rd seed has done pretty well. She soaked for 12 hours, then went into wet towels for another 18 and her taproot was showing. I put her into soil like i should have the others and within about 30 hours she had broken the surface and another 3 hours to be standing up from the soil.
Keeping an optimal environment when you're in a very low humidity range and winter is going strong isn't so easy. But we'll continue to work hard... and try not giving up, and keep them as happy as possible.
Happy New Year everyone. ✌️
What a week! Wow my hats off to all the indoor growers who manage to do this so often and with such great results! This is hard!
So I've noticed patience is essential...I want to water, i think about nutrients, I think about temperature and humidity. However the best thing I can do right now....is leave them the hell alone and try to just make the room atmosphere comfortable. The more I left them alone the better they did.
Plant #1 while older, is shorter, and less wide, but she has lots of new growth happening. So while i can tell she's the older sister, she stunted from her early weeks...but started doing better.
Plant #2 is the youngest but she germinated faster, sprouted faster, and continues to grow better in my opinion. She is in only soil, while #1 in still wrapped in her pod in the soil.
Both plants still have mild discoloration on leaves but it appears to be slowly going away and not affecting new growth.
*learning lesson...leave them alone and they'll probably grow. Do not use my peat pods as they have a tendency to be too dense and not go through a good wet dry cycle as plain soil does for me.
If i can just get them through the next couple weeks I think we'll be alright.
Oh what a week! But I am not giving up! I don't believe in abandoning the grow...just keep trying until I get it right.
There's always positives and negatives, but wow did i make a catastrophic mistake this week. Maybe 8 hours after my last update I basically burned the hell out of one of my plants and slightly on the tips of the other plant. I thought they might be at a bit too low of a temp so I set a small space heater in their room and apparently it was blowing much to close and much too hot. I'm fortunate that I didn't kill both....just one. I gave her some recovery time to see if she could heal but the damage got worse by the hours.
The surviving plant is going well though and I transplanted her into a 1 gallon Smart Pot last night with a teaspoon of mycorrhizal fungi granules. I am hopeful she will succeed.
I also germinated 2 more seeds and they let out their tap root within about 36 hours. They've been planted into small cups of Fox Farms Happy Frog soil. They sprouted within about 48 more hours and they're now about 1.5 inches tall and doing great! Yay! I'll have to take good care of them because I'm getting very tired of dying plants around the house.
It really is true that when you're doing well your garden usually reflects that. If you're in a hurry, impatient, sick, or just too busy....the garden will also reflect that and suffer.
Happy January everyone much love.✌️
Been a decent week. No catastrophic damages to report, thankfully.
The plants have been growing well this week. I finally moved them into a 2x2x4 tent which has made it possible to boost their humidity from the 20% range up to about 50-70%. Being a desert girl who loves to grow outdoors....getting that great of humidity is awesome!
I also changed their light to a 300 watt led I picked up off Amazon. Unfortunately I don't really know much about lights or trust much of the reports all of the companies claim either....so I'm sure it's not truly "300 watts", but time will tell whether it's working alright or not.
I also gave the plants a very diluted one time feeding that had a little of fox farms micro and grow nutrients in it. I've been watering using the filtered tap water and hopefully that helps to take some of the chlorine out.
The smaller plants are due to be transplanted any day now and I'm thinking about doing one in a 3 gallon and another in a one gallon to watch for differences.
*Hey everyone, since the largest plant is flowering and so far ahead of the others I'm moving the littles to their own diary so things don't get confusing. I hope this won't throw anyone off too bad, its all still the one sour stomper strain, just separate areas. Thanks.
Hope everyone is having good luck with their grows. ✌️
Hey everyone....
So i sort of snapped a main stem, The Main Stem. Yikes it was awful.
Any tips on attempting to piece plant parts back together? Miracle juices or anything like aloe vera?
Any advice helps thank you all.
When it happens to me I support the stem with a stick and if it's not enough I use tape to keep the stem straight during recovery. If the stem is really almost broken then use both tape and sticks or cut it once and for all to make An auto clone but it is more funny than useful. Concerning what you can give to her I think aloe Vera can be a good stuff as it contain a lot of trace elements and even more , I use it on my skin injury to recover faster so maybe it works the same on ganja 🤔
Bad week! Very big learning week. Those seem to go hand in hand.
So when i decided to try to tie the plant down i did notice its main stem had gotten hard...i just thought that was awfully early, but being an auto i get it. My better judgement told me to just let it grow naturally and i paid the price for not listening.
Never try pulling on a plant once their stem has began to feel even slightly stiff...or it may snap, as mine did. I thought i touched it so gently but still it snapped after a slight pull.
After the break I tried to attach the piece back by wrapping it up with tape and putting a stick for support of the whole plant with some plant ties to keep it upright. Unfortunately the snapped piece decided it didnt want to be reattached with tape or anything else and wilted and died. I'm now left with half of a plant....Dang.
But the overall health of the remaining plant seems alright. So even though we had another bad week...we're still moving forward.
Happy growing everyone.
This diary has been a pain in my butt! This week and every previous week.
She definitely did not want to reattach that branch...I'm thinking veg plants probably have a higher success rate than flowering ones. But even without the top 4 inches of main plant she's doing alright. She didn't fully shut down and die on me so that's good. There was also a good boost of upward growth over the last 2 weeks since the onset of flowering.
I'm realizing that this is a test plant and she's given me a lot of knowledge to work with. I should have tried to tie her down earlier if i wanted to, I shouldn't have used a 1 gallon pot since it dries just way too fast, and i should have gotten her into the tent with a stronger light much sooner. Unfortunately with the lack of a good environment her nodes are pretty spaced out and the budsites are small. But seeing this plant fail is also showing me how fixing the small mistakes can make a big difference. The 2 sour stompers in another diary are doing great and seem extremely more healthy and happy than this one.
I did attempt a small defoliation this week also, I'm sure more could be removed but i usual tend to lean towards removing less than more. I tried to break that habit and at least remove everything that didn't have decent pistils.
I'm not going to worry over yields or anything else with this plant , but just try to observe and attempt at learning to create a more friendly indoor environment for the future grows. Also how and when to do certain techniques in the proper time.
Happy growing everyone, thanks for all the great advice so far
This has been a good week, the plants flowering nicely and the buds are getting swelled slightly but there's definitely still time to go. Ive noticed some very sticky and smelly leaves when i touch them.
This plant has been one hell storm after another but i think we've got the kinks worked out. However that doesn't fix the damage done and it doesn't change her very odd tall skinny appearance. Clearly the boost of growth was only the beginning because she managed to basically double in height now from the start of flowering. I've had to play with the lights to get them as high as possible, ideally I would prefer the distance to be a little bigger than it is.
I think we can chalk this plant up as an incredible learning experience into the workings of an auto flower strain. I've did defoliate a bit more and and now we can just try to keep her happy and see what the yields might be and compare them to some other diaries.
I've realized one thing I definitely want to buy in the future is a white light led.😊
Hey all, its been a neat and educational week for this indoor grow.
I've learned the importance of LST and the need to do at least some early on when the plants still pliable. Especially if you have limited space like i did. When you're working with a 2x2x4 tent that's leaving a lot of room for growth to happen and then the space getting all used up. So either when buying equipment or setting up plants, plan for how much space you might need.
I moved up my LED as high as it can go but that still only left about 9 inches of available space between the light and canopy. Naturally I'm seeing some signs of light stress coming on slowly.
She's still receiving the low feeding of fox farm nutrients and is handling it well.
From having her top broken off I'd say she's really not looking too bad. I'm sure the yields will decrease but a small price to pay for remembering to be more careful and plan ahead. Her pistils have swollen nicely and I'm slowly seeing some slow color change in them as well. The end of the week photos definitely had much more orange hairs appear. And now we wait and try not to cause any catastrophic damage.
Happy growing everyone.✌️
What a mindblowing week!
First I made a couple changes in the environment of the grow. I was able to setup a 4x5x2 foot tent and put in a 4 inch intake fan and another 300 watt led. I should've got the bigger space much sooner, but better late than never. The intake fan did a few things, it created a much nicer breeze, lowered the temperature and lowered the humidity(not so good). Most of this made me happy with the exception of the low humidity, I already have that regularly so to have a more humid space was nice. The second led did raise the temp and up the light for the space, but yet again it lowered the humidity even more.
I really have a lot to learn about when plants are ready to harvest....it feels like the plant went from being completely not ready last week to all of a sudden its time to go any second! Maybe it's partly because its an autoflower? If it were a photoperiod maybe it would be all of a sudden ready over 3 weeks?
Anyways, the pistils have definitely gone past swollen and are about 80% discolored and curling in. The trichromes are...well they have the bulbous tops, and their color seems to be in the clear/milky range, but then when i looked through a magnifier I could see some turning amber. So I think it's safe to say that any day now she'll get the chop.
I gave the plant a nice heavy watering with no nutrients last night and will continue to do that for a few days. Being in the 1 gallon pot it's needed to be watered basically everyday, I'm sure the smart pot added to it's ability to dry up so quickly.
One thing I've found interesting about this first indoor grow is I haven't seen any bug activity! Not that they couldn't be there but very small, but i haven't seen any chewed leaves, premature pistil discoloration or any other signs i associate with pests or predators. That's been an incredible positive change from my outdoor grows where there's always bugs, predators and pests.
Over all this has been an extremely educational and exciting grow...I can see why people enjoy indoor so much and auto flowers.
Happy growing everyone this has been a very fun and incredibly fast grow.
This is my first indoor grow, is there anything different i should be doing at harvest, other than just chopping it down like with outdoor? What's with the putting plants in the dark for 24+ hours before chopping?
This is the end....
It was incredible the amount this plant matured in the short span of about 10 days. It went from having many still white pistils to orange hairs and milky trichromes very fast. I wanted to give a few solid days of plain waterings and I think I succeeded the best i could at flushing the plant on such fast notice.
I read and heard a silly rumor about needing to put your plants into 24-72 hours of complete darkness before harvest. Since being new to growing indoors i was willing to try whatever odd things, thinking their important. Supposedly this darkness can help increase the number of trichromes, I'm not sure I either believe that or agree with it. I figured if it did anything that it might be a bit cooler temps and possibly cause the trichromes to get slightly more sparkly and maybe more color on the whole plant.
*After testing this out based on the before and after photos I didn't notice any significant changes.
Thank you to everyone who's helped me out with this grow. It was unbelievably helpful to have a diary to look back at and all the tips from everyone and their diaries. ✌️
I chose Mephisto Sour Stomper because I had seen others diaries and they all showed a relatively short plant, I knew my starting grow space and what it could accommodate and this strain seemed to fit what I had to work with. It's an extremely convenient thing to be able to research a plant and the way it might grow based off everyone's data on grow diaries, that was one of my most helpful tools at starting to attempt indoor growing. Using the 1 gallon smart pot was another difficult thing as it dried out very fast and needed watering 1-2 times daily, but i do believe there's a strong connection to the size of the pot and the size of your plant.
Due to this plant having so many unplanned complications and that lead to the less desirable bud density and quantity I had to make some decisions on what to do with the limited buds I had. After it dried for 5 days i was left with 17.6 grams of untrimmed highly resinous bud sites. I decided the best possible option available was to not trim the plant and just remove any leaf matter with no trichromes. I then used a Rosintech press to turn it all into Rosin....which worked great since the buds were so fresh. I did a practice press with some old dry buds and it was a huge failure...so key to good rosin, use the freshest buds you can find. I found that my most successful range was between 210-220 temperatures for about 1 minute. I tried using a 20 micron bag i had won on GD and it was useless unless you're pressing kief, basically any bag lower than 90 micron wasn't any good for pressing flower or trim material. Out of the 17.6 grams of material I managed to get 2.7 grams which is actually not bad, it's about a 15% return rate. Given I had to dial in my process and wasted a batch on the 20 micron bag I was very happy. The rosin was a very gorgeous honey color which is also a good sign.
So basically this was a fun grow, and no grow is a loss where you get to learn and try new things. This is a great strain for rosin pressing and it was a beautiful strain to see and smell. I'll definitely try to grow it outdoors this summer for comparison. Many thanks Mephisto. ✌️
