Hello everyone and welcome to Week 4, Veg w/ Bruce. The Deets: The Good: -All round good week with Bruce. Her top side growth is moving exponentially fast now, and she is looking like a different plant everyday I check up on her. -Preliminary training has helped bring out her lower laterals and I'll be able to grab these and train them out, very soon. All new growth is very healthy and lush w/ pretty good texture and color. -Seems to me that the stem and root system is steal healing, but is doing much better then before. She's more able to support the heavy top side growth after some small changes made to the feeding/watering schedule. -Rough start yielded only 3 blades, a sign of poor health, if not genetic. She moved from 3 to a single 5 set and already on too pushing 7 blade fans. I feel this is another great sign of her rebound and she may be out of the woods... The Bad: -Temperature fluctuations in my area are really screwing me and my parameters. The tent's it's own system, but the hot/cold and RH swings are causing some issues. I would like to hold steady numbers for the girls to acclimate, but that's not happening right now. The 'Meh': -One of the pictures above gave me a bit of a scare but immediately worked itself out within 12 hours. But, it was a clear sign of leaf margin rolling (didn't know the correct term until now). It wasn't over-watering, under watering, the lamp distance or heat...I tested them all, haha. So the only thing left was over-fert and I had just fed 24 hours previously. I was worried I messed her up and I do think I gave too much (pushing them a little bit...), but she does seem to be working it out and using up the excess I gave her. Currently leeching the heavy nutes with 200mL (6.0pH) a day for a few days, before a dry out and a standard flush through with 10-15% run-off. -Root system just a tad behind still, but the feeding applied this week will hopefully bring it up to speed and we can move along smoothly, here. Notes of the Week: -Was having a good chat with Med_in_Tropic and we were talking about why Dutch Dragon dips out every night, when all parameters have been checked off and she shouldn't be doing this. Genes? Temp? I don't know. We came to a consensus that the root system may still be behind (after 1.5 weeks in hot soil and frying them). This was limiting all the girls ability to take up adequate moisture and nutrients from the soil for the entirety of the day. This was leading to drought-ed leaves w/ the lateral branching also showing signs of water deprivation. SO! it was decided it would probably be a good idea to work on the root system for a bit and semi-ignore the top-side growth. This is the new feed I applied. I leveled off N/K and picked up my P/Cal dosing to help repair and push the girls root system to support her top-side movement. I feel this will take a week or two, so there hasn't been any real noticeable difference as of yet. Yesterday, however, DD didn't dip out until 7:30pm instead of her usual 7:00pm... Good sign? Haha, again, I don't know. We shall see. -No preliminary training on Space Cookies. Decided to let her move like I did Norther Lights #1. I will start her training after her topping this week. All girls will be topped this week at some point and this will open up SC to some light and air, giving me some laterals to train out. -After the root system is up to snuff, I will be going back to a tad more of an aggressive schedule, over the one I used in grow #2. I was doing a little egg shell walking last grow, again, and I know I can quicken the process if I'm careful. It's a learning curve I'm going to need to learn and what amounts or additives is too much/going to far. There will most likely be consequences, but I'm prepared for that and I'm hoping the end game result will be me, having a better handle on what/how/how much every micro/macro nutrient and additive is doing. Cheers everyone for stopping by and checking out GDPxB. Another big change from last week and I feel we're definitely on our way with all 4 kids. Thanks again to @Med_in_tropic for the guidance and advice. Things are a hell of a lot easier when someone knows your parameters, been following the grow, knows what you've already done and can help you with future adjustments. Thanks again Med, and thanks to you all. I say it every week but I mean it.... Stay safe and much love to you all✊😉 **Just a side note I feel I should throw this in. This is coming from the electrician in me. Please, everyone, make sure your equipment is rated properly. I've seen a few un-settling things recently that mostly deal with inline timers, specifically the difference b/t analog and digital. If you're using a digital timer for an HPS/MH set-up, I can almost guarantee it's not rated to do this. I highly suggest ONLY using analog timers for HPS/MH systems, as the analogs are more rigidly built and can handle the massive in-rush current that comes along with these lamps. Digital timers usually can't take that inrush current and are more suited for LED/COB (They do not have this in-rush). Using a digital with HPS/MH may work for a bit, but the inner mechanisms and integral wiring will burn/break apart in good time. The contacts may either burn out and the light won't turn on at all, or the contacts will be fused shut from high heat melting the two metals together, making it unable for you to turn it off! Just two cents my friends. Please read the specs and the fine print before possibly buying something that could, at the very least, burn up and cost you cash. Worst case scenario, you burn it up, trip the breaker and damage your lamps drivers/ballasts. Cheers!😀**

@JinksyGrows, I am also considering buying a small Electric Hoist to raise and lower the units too and use "yo-yo hangers" on each corner to keep from the units from spinning. Might sound excessive, but having the ability to quickly and easily raise and lower the lights would be well worth the investment. I have been eyeing one with 110lb capacity and it only weighs a little over 12lbs. Anyhow, if you have questions or if I can help in anyway, please let me know. Happy growing!

Oveerwatering Issues=?. I feel you- To me the watering Regime is the hardest one to learn in indoor growing. It took me a good number of grows. I ended in watering daily, and smaller amounts. and Always to look for the plant before i water^^. If you have tiny plants, use tiny buckets to water them. ( a small glass )etc. You may take longer, but you cant overdo it. Or take a small plasticbottle and do some markings onto the bottle. so you see how much you want to give to one plant. and can Control how much they already got.

@Mrs_Larimar, got that right. I have no issues watering of established plants but seedlings in final pots are a bitch.

@Mrs_Larimar, This is exactly what I've started to do as of yesterday, haha. I can't be trusted with the 100mL syringe, so I'm back to bottle feeds. Going waaay better, haha. Thanks👍. I'll stop drowning them😅

Man how did we experience the exact same thing at the same time!? Reading the comments I’m so glad to hear they’re bouncing back!! I just had 5 nodes when I overwatered and had 0 growth for 7 days and lost the 3 lower nodes on all my girls. Since reporting in fabric pots they’ve bounced back and are growing as good as ever! Can’t wait to see how yours bounce back man, good luck!!

@ButtersStotch, Funny eh? Haha. Well, not a that funny, but crap does happen. And we're in the same boat, but it a good way this time🙂. I moved mine to 3 gallon fabrics too and they're moving surprisingly really well now. Woot! Congrats on the recovery man. Onwards 😀👍

=====You Asked====== *Any quantum board suggestions, or whether you'd prefer two lamps over one? Please leave em below with a link! Thanks!* ==================== Alibaba is like the Chinese Version Of Amazon https://www.alibaba.com/ they have some of the best prices on lights - you can get lights of better quality at much less than you would pay locally I was going to buy a spider farmer for my 4x4 but went instead with this light and can not be any happier. @Mrs_Larimar, That's a good point. I was looking at last week's pictures and trich development and she is moving very quick. The purple and fade only started 4 days ago too and that's going really fast. May have to cut down sooner, but I'll let her tell me😉. Just keeping a real close eye on them now.

Good to know about the benefit of ticking analog as nice programable digital. Come to think of it, these household timers, are usually design for fence light or even night light. They are not rated for the wattage for grow room at all.
JinksyGrows
JinksyGrows
@Med_in_Tropic, You've got it, 100%. Residential timers being used for commercial lighting. Danger😮. With LED, the wattage is nice and constant without a spike👍. Thanks for reading man!

JinksyGrows
JinksyGrows
@Huggomadd,No doubt man. I learned a big lesson from this, and maybe it was necessary (?). I was taking people's word at face value, but they could have literally know nothing in the first place. I test everything now, lol! And only buy mediums that the seller has proof of using and/or testing before use👍. Live and learn! But this one hurt. Oof.

@JinksyGrows, The standard should be that garden centers/shops stand behind their products because they've tried them out previously themselves. Like tried and true. Hard to say; "Yeah this product works great and gives you a huge/great harvest. You should pay the $ and try it." When they truly haven't got a clue about the product.
JinksyGrows
JinksyGrows
@Ga4rd2en0er, Non name brand, locally sourced soil, sold at a gardening greenhouse, not a hydro shop. I've had words with the greenhouse already... Haha. Not happy, and told them to pull the product, less they have another 40 of me coming to crap on them. I asked if they ever test their substrates before selling them, too. They said no... So, won't ever trust them again. Edit 1: The soil was sold to me as 5.5pH seeding soil, btw. Higher N to PK volume. Should be standard stuff... Not sure how or where it got turned sour. Edit 2: And things are looking good, right now. I will not be kiboshing the project 👍. Lost time, but they're moving very well, now, in their new home
