Howdy all and welcome to Week 5, Veg w/ GDPxB. Interesting week...the Deets:
The Good:
-Despite small problems I know I have to work on, GDPB is doing very, very well. The hulk indeed.
-Fan leaves are frigging huge, health and color is beauty and all new growth and laterals are coming up happy and healthy as-well.
-Taking to training very well and her topping this week. Didn't react or delay growth, just kept on plugging along. I feel by end of week 6, she will be quite a bit bigger and should be taking a nice bubbled shape.
The Bad:
-There's a known pH imbalance and high PPM swing after I did the first feed w/ run-off. I expected high ppm's but not a low pH and this will needed to be addressed right away (and has). The first run-off numbers were a sad 5.3pH and 2800ppm. New reads listed below w/ comparison #'s. This, I believe is currently semi-locking out my P/K/Cal and would explain some of the leaf texture, color and growth rate. Also feel like I see a bit of chlorosis going on, but this may be symptomatic of something else, as my micro (with iron) hasn't been changed. Possible pH balance again, keep her from taking what she needs.
-Due to the pH imbalance I'm seeing some symptoms top-side, but nothing is burning or discoloring. The numbers weren't good but it wasn't doing too much damage yet. Good good. All the signs of deficiencies and/or toxicities seen in the picture have been determined to be a result of this low pH swing and it has since been brought back up and observation is currently under-way (Did second flush/feed application today and too short a period to determine if everything will be kosher w/ this move. I'm positive all will be well, though👍)
The 'Meh':
-Bad is also the 'Meh'. Have a pH imbalance but I'm on it.
-Wind burn is noticeable on GDPB's massive fans. My low end circulation has been knocking her around to much and caused some wind burn on every large, center blade. Been rotated and circulation has been adjusted.
-I hate my camera with a passion (phone cam). If you notice above, the pictures I tried to take today, on the coffee table, came out in garbage colors... The plants don't look like this and I have no idea what my phone considers a "good" filter. Some days they come out good, but most the time these pictures are terrible. Working on this too. Probably just recommission my old phone just to use for photos.
**First and Second Flush/Feed Results**
May 5th, 1st Run-off Read:
-5.3pH and 2800ppm
-Ran 1.25 Gallons of nutrient feed w/ 25-20% run-off. Applied at 6.0pH and 240ppm
May 10th, 2nd Run-off Read:
-5.7/5.8pH and 916ppm (Good rise in pH and drop in PPM's)
-Ran 1 gallon of straight Tap @ 6.5pH, followed up with 750mL of nutrient feed to replace what was taken with the flush.
Notes of the Week:
-Went back to basics for a bit as I was convoluting a lot of things for a bit. Trying to do and try too much at once. So I've pulled back on the tonne of new supplements/additives and went back to what I know until this pH swing and ppm's fall back into place. When things are on the up an up (hopefully after the procedure I just did today) I'll go back to my advanced schedule and new additives that I would like to use on the girls, for the remainder of this grow.
-Tent parameters are actually very good right now and I haven't had to touch anything for awhile. Day/night temps and RH is pretty constant and if I hold these numbers, I'm positive they will continue to take it all in and thrive.
-Tentatively planning the flip to flower already, as I feel this growth rate will be constant, as long as I keep up what I'm doing. Benchmark time will be b/t week 8-9 for the flip. Pretty much the same as Grow #2 but I will flip around a safer height @ around 18" tall. Second grow I triggered at 24" and this damn near screwed me over!
Anywho, that was week 5 w/ GDPB. I think I'll upload some better photos of them tomorrow to replace the crappy cell pics I took today. Not a fan of these at all. Please disregard the odd colors. The flash makes the plant look like it's oily and full of deficiencies... she is not. I added in the final top-down photo of her in the tent, just to show how bad the other pictures were. But for now, they serve the purpose of showing her current height, width and internode development. Thanks for stopping by and checking her out! She's going to be frigging massive and it's clear as day why they call her the hulk. I've seen 100 diaries of Bruce and GDP but to see them crossed and growing like tropical palm trees is wicked man. More excited by the day with GDPB. If you see anything amiss or have something to tell me that you feel I should be doing, other then what I've already done to alleviate the symptoms, please drop me a line. It would be greatly appreciated and constructive criticism is always welcome👍. Have a great week all. Take care of you and yours and I'll see you again real soon😊✊. Much love, folks.
@JinksyGrows, I am also considering buying a small Electric Hoist to raise and lower the units too and use "yo-yo hangers" on each corner to keep from the units from spinning. Might sound excessive, but having the ability to quickly and easily raise and lower the lights would be well worth the investment. I have been eyeing one with 110lb capacity and it only weighs a little over 12lbs. Anyhow, if you have questions or if I can help in anyway, please let me know. Happy growing!
Oveerwatering Issues=?. I feel you- To me the watering Regime is the hardest one to learn in indoor growing. It took me a good number of grows.
I ended in watering daily, and smaller amounts. and Always to look for the plant before i water^^.
If you have tiny plants, use tiny buckets to water them. ( a small glass )etc. You may take longer, but you cant overdo it.
Or take a small plasticbottle and do some markings onto the bottle. so you see how much you want to give to one plant. and can Control how much they already got.
@Mrs_Larimar, This is exactly what I've started to do as of yesterday, haha. I can't be trusted with the 100mL syringe, so I'm back to bottle feeds. Going waaay better, haha.
Thanks👍. I'll stop drowning them😅
Man how did we experience the exact same thing at the same time!? Reading the comments I’m so glad to hear they’re bouncing back!! I just had 5 nodes when I overwatered and had 0 growth for 7 days and lost the 3 lower nodes on all my girls. Since reporting in fabric pots they’ve bounced back and are growing as good as ever! Can’t wait to see how yours bounce back man, good luck!!
@ButtersStotch, Funny eh? Haha. Well, not a that funny, but crap does happen. And we're in the same boat, but it a good way this time🙂. I moved mine to 3 gallon fabrics too and they're moving surprisingly really well now. Woot! Congrats on the recovery man. Onwards 😀👍

Alibaba is like the Chinese Version Of Amazon https://www.alibaba.com/ they have some of the best prices on lights - you can get lights of better quality at much less than you would pay locally
I was going to buy a spider farmer for my 4x4 but went instead with this light and can not be any happier.

@MrJones, I did ask😀 and thank you for the response👍. I've been on alibaba before, but you're correct. I should hop over there and check specs and options before buying a name! Cheers Jones, I'm on the hunt👌
oha,,,, that was really short ( for you)😜
most time if i say .. well theywill need 10-12 Days... they are suddenly done 5 Days later... my Plants tend to change from clear to milky,,,"overnight"
@Mrs_Larimar, That's a good point. I was looking at last week's pictures and trich development and she is moving very quick. The purple and fade only started 4 days ago too and that's going really fast. May have to cut down sooner, but I'll let her tell me😉. Just keeping a real close eye on them now.
@Med_in_Tropic, Still a little bit to go, but I feel we're close👌. Not dead or crispy! I have faith🙂. Moved forward with my test feed on DD and we shall see how this goes. Been 8 hrs and she's perked right up ... I'll take what I can get! Haha. So far so good.
Thanks med!
Good to know about the benefit of ticking analog as nice programable digital. Come to think of it, these household timers, are usually design for fence light or even night light. They are not rated for the wattage for grow room at all.
@Med_in_Tropic, You've got it, 100%. Residential timers being used for commercial lighting. Danger😮. With LED, the wattage is nice and constant without a spike👍. Thanks for reading man!
@Huggomadd,No doubt man. I learned a big lesson from this, and maybe it was necessary (?). I was taking people's word at face value, but they could have literally know nothing in the first place.
I test everything now, lol! And only buy mediums that the seller has proof of using and/or testing before use👍.
Live and learn! But this one hurt. Oof.
@JinksyGrows,
The standard should be that garden centers/shops stand behind their products because they've tried them out previously themselves. Like tried and true. Hard to say; "Yeah this product works great and gives you a huge/great harvest. You should pay the $ and try it." When they truly haven't got a clue about the product.
@Ga4rd2en0er, Non name brand, locally sourced soil, sold at a gardening greenhouse, not a hydro shop. I've had words with the greenhouse already... Haha. Not happy, and told them to pull the product, less they have another 40 of me coming to crap on them. I asked if they ever test their substrates before selling them, too. They said no... So, won't ever trust them again.
Edit 1: The soil was sold to me as 5.5pH seeding soil, btw. Higher N to PK volume. Should be standard stuff... Not sure how or where it got turned sour.
Edit 2: And things are looking good, right now. I will not be kiboshing the project 👍. Lost time, but they're moving very well, now, in their new home
Well that is a beautifully growing plant - stunning leaves and very healthy looking. Nice job mate 👌
A few more weeks and it will be hard for you to find your way inside that space :)
@HazeyBobby, I sure hope so🙂. Did a bunch of LST on 3 of 4 today and really starting to see exponential, daily growth. Slow and steady wins the race, but fast vegging plants is a beauty sight👌☺️
@Buddha2, Thanks Buddah! Going to take a page out of your book and keep it simple this time around👌. Let them go a little more natural 😊
Cheers and happy grows this week!
