Hey you fine horticulterists, another question thrown at you. When scouting online I've seen that some growers put their ladies thru a 24 hour dark period before harvesting. Is this something you do ? Is it required ? What are your preferences at harvest festival time ? 🕊️

Hello miss ! You can find many infos about that around the web but the best way to really know is to look at forum threads , a lot of growers already have this debate in the past and it appear that .... it's always 50/50 , some likes it , some hate it. But 24h is not enough , you will just report your harvest from 24h : go for 72h at least if you wanna try it and see a real result. Here is a link to a thread that may help you 👉 https://www.thcfarmer.com/community/threads/24-48-hours-of-dark-before-harvest.38943/ 👉 someone is quoting a (supposed) scientific test. According to me 72h of dark will help to decrease chlorophyl level so increase the taste and as thc is affected by light those 72h will be 72h of thc production. Read that thread and I hope it will help you 😁👍 (edit : I don't use that method before harvest because I keep it simple)

Hey there so i know theres much speculation about resin and other benefits to the dark period, whether this is true to all plants i do not know. However to me it is this, when you officially cut a plant down it is still alive for quite some time, once the plants stem fills with air it really dies (thats why clone clippings must go straight into water), i feel the 24 hr + time of darkness allows the plant no confusion its time has come. Some people reveg their plants and so a dark period may not be desirable for them...but if you're doing 1 cycle, giving the plant a small amount of absolute darkness just brings the cycle to a close. Any final processes it may need to do it will know to do immediately. Gotta love mother nature she's a beautiful mystery at times. Before you do your shut off if you choose, i would most definitely remove all of your largest leaves, and try leaving the plant with just small sugar leaves(most of them are full of trichs and good for baking or concentrate making(lol excuse the rhyme) ) Happy Harvesting...enjoy the trimming 😁😬✌️

Hi @MissFlowerPower! What a controversial topic you bring here :) This process is supposed to increase resin production by giving the plant a final stress, as the plant would consider this like a death signal. In my opinion, you can't radically change your 8 weeks old buds in a 24h window, and this never happens in nature. However, harvesting in the morning (before the light turns on) is a great way to improve potency and terpenes, since daytime heat/light degrades THC and terpenes. You can try by yourself on a single plant: harvest the main stem and/or a few branches first, then put the rest of the plant under dark period. I've tried, and never noticed any kind of improvement, but I'm curious to read your analysis if you try. Happy growing 👋
