General LST questions (how am I doing?)

Should I be constantly changing the direction of the tie down on my main stem during LST or should I just be tying down new growth on bud sites? should I defoliate or use thinner ties (Using rubber coated wire) and should I let small growth grow up first or tie it down ASAP?

Hey friend, you do have to keep studying the ties as the plants grow allow new growth to gain abit of hight before tying it down with the rest of the canopy to avoid damaging them while small and delicate, the foam/rubber wire is perfect just don't cover noads or where bud sites are to appear and you are better to tuck big fan leaves but you can defoliate a few leaves if absolutely necessary not to many and slow a recovery period between LST and defoliation, ultimately there is no specific pattern to follow just keep it nice and even they all grow different. Hope this helps 👍

you can use apical dominance to control canopy. let some weaker growth gain dominance and grow faster, then tie her down when appropriate, if a keeper. i'd only remove a leaf for a very spcific reason. buds don't need light, but local leaves do.. so you prevent stretch by making sure leaves have light.. sometimes you'll remove a leaf off the top to prevent unwanted stretch just below... simply have a good reason and you'll get better at choosing over time. a lot of this depends on what your intentions are. as long as ties don't cut through the plant, they are fine. Have a plant to fill the area, get to X number of vertical shoots, and get her into bloom when roughly 1/2 the area is filled. my plants fill roughly a 15x15 space each nowadays.. 6-7 vertical shoots is all i want per plant. 4x plants fill my 30x30 slot(s) in bloom box. ~6"x6" per cola? if you have extremely large colas, may need more.. you'll get thicker, deeper buds if you don't try to overcrowd.
