You'll probably get away with a 2w, but a 5w 80gph is ideal for a 5gal DWC bucket.

Forgot to say... just fill up what you intend to use it for and see how it works. finer bubbles are better -- increase surface area... and if it is a large reservoir, you want to churn water, not make bubbles as that works better with larger volumes. those little jets that cause surface undulation work well -- like in a larger aquarium.

it's like an aquarium... if it is deep, you need a bit more. is this one bucket? 2w might be enough. Not all airpumps are equally efficient. The one i used in the past can run 4 5-gallong buckets and likely more. It was an Aquaneat airpump -- the large 160gph one. it worked nearly as well as the 335gph vivosun air pump and much quieter - that pump did run 8 5-gallon buckets, to be fair, but not as many small bubbles per bucket as the aquaneat product... and ten times quieter. i'd have to touch it to feel the vibrations to know it was on. i've only used the 5w 2-port aquaneat. it's ~$25. No idea if their smaller one is as quiet.
