Hello does anyone know why my seedling died. It looks dried up and dead. I germinated in a paper towel until 1/2 of root came out then planted in 65%FFHF 20% perilite and 15%wormcastings. I misted the top once a day when it appeared dry. Had in 3gal pots w/ a LED450W 28in away :(

jiffy pellets are pretty full proof and generally are a good soil starter. just get soak them and use them.. some are more acidic then others depending on the peat content. But I believe the "jiffy brand" pellets are pretty fool proof for cannabis starters. Seedling heating mats are great if your growing in a basement or wanna give your seedlings that extra edge. Good luck and better luck next time.. I'm sure you'll be growing Trees in no time :).

@organoman thanks for the tips!! I’m definitely going to check that out on ur diaries now to see what I can learn. I went out and brought some jiffy pellets but will for sure look into that as well thanks!! And yeah I thought since it only had 1/2 inch of a root I only had to mist the top lol that wasn’t the brightest idea. Thank you for that I now know for the next grownfor sure!

Misting the soil is totally in adequate and this is no doubt why your seedling died. The roots are 1-2 inches long and water needs to get down to that depth to prevent death. Misting may at best go down an eighth of an inch, probably less. The soil needs to be moist from top to bottom for proper root development. Either jiffies or rockwool cubes work well. If you are keen to see a tutorial about how to start in rockwool cubes, have a look at my diary "cannabis conundrums" and in the germination week you will find this information in pictorial form, about 35 pictures in total. Hope this helps,....... Organoman.

@weezy90 yes you both have some very good pointers. Going to try out the paper towel then jiffy method. Hopefully that’ll give me a better idea of watering. Looking into the whole seed germinating tray with a heating pad. Maybe that way will create less mistakes from a rookie like me lol thanks again!! 🌱🌱

@HarbingerOfHarvests thanks again too for the help! Need it all ! Lol I’m thinking underwatering too. I think the big pot kinda scared me. So now I know I was using too much humidity thanks for that! So I’m thinking going forward to use jiffy strip trays I have here. Should I germinate in paper towel still then plant in jiffy? Should I use a mix of FF and perilite in it? So stuck on how to get my other seeds to germinate :( any advice would be great! Thanks again !!

@weezy90 Thanks for the help! They were in the soil for a little over a week. I gave no nutes just pre moistened the soil before planted then once roots popped out I planted in the soil mix. Do you think I needed to drench the soil before planting to the point there was runoff? Also I think ur right about starting it off in a smaller pot. I have jiffy strip trays. Should I plant in that then transfer? How would the soil work for the jiffy? I also live in a freezing cold area so it’s hard to maintain temp without lights or a heating pad. Thanks for all ur help again!!

looks like underwatering to me.. The substrate should be watered before you plant.. The plant will grow down and out if there is not moisture in the substrate the plant will die. The idea of 60-70 % rh is not really correct all you have to do is keep the VPD within the green zone. Seedlings will grow with 40% RH if there is sufficient moisture in the soil/substrate and if the temperature isn't Excessive.. When you increase the temperature you need to increase the humidity. Hot soil won't do this.. unless it's awful soil but it's happy frog so it's most likely the no water situation..

Hi !

Also kept the lights 18/6, temp: 72-83 And Humidity: 60-75%. Not sure if the soil was too strong for the auto seeds or the pot was too big for the seed or if I under or over watered :( so many questions. Please help! Lol
