Hey I was thinking to make a quantum board from scratch but there are not much type of smd led's I could find online. So wanted to ask you guys if that would be a good idea or I should not even think about it? I can have enough of smd 3020 to do this but the last word is yours..

If i may add he swore he had a greater light output than the regulars that were sold at the time. I think your concern about lightdensity is a bit wierd since you are actually in the perfect position to build a Grid that suits your tent perfectly or not ? (My biggest point for building on myself actually) For the price depends on the Stuff you get oc but should be comparativly cheaper than a ready one. If you dont want Samsung got for Cree or Osram they make some decent one too i heard but the Leds would be the part i wouldnt want to save money then. Dont know why but i hope you go through with the Idea. ( Imagine the looks if your DIY beats some high end Lamp some dude bought for way to much😂) Have a nice one. cheers😊

My advice is use samsung lm301b or lm301h..these are 3030 led.1 diot has 210 lumen.samsung lm281+ diots(2835 led) has 165 lumen...and you need 3500k light.

Just buy a ready made light, they have done all the R&D and their lights don't have the potential to go up in flames or electrocute anyone. You are probably better off with multiple smaller lights or the new types of light bars, than you are with one giant panel light. Cheers, Organoman.

I have very briefly considered doing my own light. I quickly came to the realization that there isn't much to be gained. Yes, you can choose what chips you use but I don't see how you can magically reinvent a superior wheel so in my mind there isn't much to be gained by picking your chips. Most modern white lights already have a sufficient base/heat sink so supplemental cooling is not needed so nothing to gain there. The life/output curve of the emitters is known by everyone so you'll end up with about the same number of emitters as a store bought light so no benefit gained by doing it yourself. You are then left with the manufacturing. The part that factories do very well. You need to decide if the satisfaction from hand soldering hundreds of surface mount components is worth the "fun". UV is one area where I think there is some room for discussion. What wavelength do you want? Are there LED emitters for the wavelengths you want? Do you need UV whenever the lights are ON or will you need to control them separately which then you need to consider if it's best done with a separate light. Is UV even proven beneficial? But, if you decide to do the light I'd love to see you post about your design thought process and why you choose what you did. And, hopefully post some pictures of the process and finished light.

If you got the whole Driver/Dimmer thing covered just go for the latest Samsung Fullspectrum ones you can find. I found a Blogpost some time ago about someone who had exactly the same idea (I wish i saved the Link...👿) there was even a Calculator for Watts/Lightdensity and so on for the diffrent LEDs but Samsung had the ,,best,, ones if i remember correctly. He basically just glued Strips of connected Leds onto a Grid (should negate the vents and so on idk) and yeah...i guess you know what your doing so this ,,might,, give you atleast a picture? Idk just my 2Cents since i had the same plan quite some time ago but went the lazy way and bought a premade one. cheers👻
