MH, HPS distance?

So i am reading diaries that are using MH & HPS lights and Seeing a Distance of 10-18 inches from plant.
Are people really putting them that close during flowering stage?

SeedlingsThis is my first grow and waiting for them to sprout out, I first soaked them in water over night on a seedling heat mat then put them into soil in these pots and into the plastic propagator in a dark room, should i take them out put them under lights now or wait til they sprout?

Which light cycle should I use in my tentOk so I have three autos and two photos In my tent. Did I start LST too early?At day 22, did I start LST too early? I feel that I may have stunted the growth a little from overheating, but didn't want to wait too long to start training. Also, would a higher-powered light cause less distance between the nodes, and therefore make LST harder/less effective?

Light timer ProblemHey Growers.
So I made a dumbass mistakes…..for the last 18 days I have had my light timer set for 12 hrs 15 mins on and 11 hrs 45 off. They are looking good and budding up. I’m wondering is that close enough to 12/12 to have my day 1 flower be true for accuracy sake.

Should I lower my light during flowering?I'm at 24 inches away now, should I lower the light now that she's in full bloom? I went with the recommendation of Mars Hydro and burnt up 3 seedlings as a result. Sadly I only have one bean left of my Fastbuds over this crucial mistake.
