Is a 24 hour light cycle good for my plants as I have read? Should I switch to 16/8?

18/6 or 20/4 is the way for autos, 24/0 gives them no recovery time so a mistake can quickly go from bad to worse. There are lots of things that happen in dark periods and as long as they get enough light in the period you go for they will be happy - just dont try giving them 40DLI in an hour and a half cause they will probably set on fire 🤣

18/6 is the accepted optimum for the entire life of auto flowers or photoperiod plants in vegetative growth. All plants, cannabis included, need a dark period within every 24 hour period to complete their cycle of photosynthesis and undertake certain metabolic processes that they can not do while active with lights on. Without a dark period, your plants will have an unbalanced and unhealthy life and be stressed due to not being able to complete their photosynthesis properly and also have an incomplete metabolism. Besides, cannabis can only grow so much during any 24 hour period, and this growth tops out at around the 18 hour mark, meaning running your lights any longer than 18 hours, is basically a waste of electricity. All living beings - plants, animals and humans need sleep. In other words, to be able to function correctly, a period of activity followed by a period of sleep. This is called a "circadian rhythm", and without one, life for all living beings would be abnormal, unbalanced and unhealthy. 24 hour light can only be recommended by people who do not fully understand how plants function. A quick google search of "photosynthesis" will soon make it obvious why a dark period is needed for any plants' well being and health. You will not lose anything, size, yield or potency by going to 18/6, in fact all of these things will be improved by having a plant that is healthy and with a normal metabolism due to them getting the "sleep" that they need. The importance of "sleep" for a plant can not be understated. Good luck and happy growing! Cheers, Organoman.

A science directed approach would suggest to get some light readings and figure out what the PPFD is, and calculate the DLI at 24 hours vs. 18 hours then either adjust the lights or times according to the best DLI range for a seedling. 24 hours makes sense if you've got weak lights, but if you've got fairly powerful lighting you're only wasting electricity and/or giving more light than they can use (which may stress plants).

If your growing autos then 18/6, photo period plants like the same. Autos stay with 18/6 their entire life. Photo period plants have to be turned back tom 12/12 to get them to flower. That said, it looks like you may be keeping your planters to wet. Water only when the top inch or 2 of your substrate is dried. Cheers
