Please help me understand LEDs as mains. Same amount of money I can run double the plants and produce larger sticky buds with hps/mhl combo. I was always under impression LEDS are a just a better florescent.

@Shagrath @Greenbean15 & @lemonfaker . You guys were helpful. I have a budget crappy LED in my room but is only for adding spectrum. Seems to be helping with color and node stacking in flower. Don't notice any difference in veg. Plants want to chase the Mhl.. I'm in Canada, Living in Igloos here, lol I'm constantly adding heat to room in winter , accutally bought bitcoin miners for fresh air exchange that heats the outside air. Summer have to pull the hot air out of the room. HID is the best this side of the world for temp. Let me know how this cycle makes out lemon. Think your going to have an issue with yield too but might make up with turpenes.

Hey @Fusion! I've started 2 years ago using 400W HPS and now I'm doing my first grow on a DIY 6 LED Citizen1212 CLU48 setup. First of all, stay away from cheap LEDs like some amazon choices (under 400$-500$). And be sure to check the real wattage of the LEDs, since some manufactures announce replacements for a 600w HPS with a real wattage of 240w (wich is impossible). Actually they are on the market some Quantum Board LEDs that will give you 1.5-2g/w. Take a look to Marshydro TS 3000 QB, for example. The type of LEDs I am using are COB ones. They will make you easier to distribute your lights and have a more uniform PAR. They have a very good efficiency and they make easier to control the temperatures in your growing tent since they only are at a Cº60(Fº140) temp. It's my first grow with this lights so I can't ensure if I will get the promised 1.2-1.5g/w. I've noticed that they took more nutrients under LEDs that under HPS and much more Calcium, so I guess it's a good signal. Hope I helped you out!

It really depends on the light itself. Not all LEDs are made the same. Lots are too cheap to even grow a plant. I bought a $100 light, a friend of mine bought a $70 light. Since I looked at specs before purchasing I knew I’d get a complete grow from my light. My friend only got .5 dry ounces from a 4+ month grow on three plants. I ended up with 6 dry ounces on plants that were half her plants age. Before purchasing lights you really need to look into what your plants need and what your price range is.... look at the different ranges of light the light will provide...Look at the light spectrum number ranges not just colors. Look at if the light have UV/IR lighting, etc. Plants need all of these types of light to grow to the best of their ability. Look at the strength of the light... PAR(photosynthetically active radiation) value is something I’ve recently been looking at as well. LEDs don’t get very hot, they’re pretty compact and they’re also pretty light weight. They don’t take as much electricity and most brands daisy-chain together to make multiple light units an easy option.

HI! I think its all about the quality of leds. With good quality leds you can have the same results with half the power compared to HPS (300W LED =600W HPS) Also Leds don't produce that much heat so no cooling is needed and you can bring them much closer to the plants. Leds also produce better light footprint with simple lens so no reflector is needed and again better efficiency.

I have grown side by side with my son-in-law has 2 LEDs , 400w and 900w .. my 600 hps kills the LEDS. He's still trying to get his true set of leaves and I'm already cloning.
