Is it a good idea to give autos a longer dark period after a good defoliation to help them recover?

For autos it appears to be best to keep their light schedule constant from start to finish, a bit of intense defol will probably slow them down for 2-4 days depending on how much you removed and how healthy they are overall.

Never heard of that, but it’s not a bad idea.. you just gotta try stuff and see what works for you honestly. That’s the best advice I can give. I don’t know how they will like being switched to a different schedule if you’re gonna switch it right back a few days later tho.. like I said tho - give it a try!
