It all depends on your style you wanna grow with. I defoliate as needed. Mainly thinning out or removing leaves from bud sites. I always ensure I have a solid green canopy though. If a auto I don't recommend unless you can grow with very little issues. If a photoperiod I cut bottom half out as I switch to flowering then again about 3 weeks in. To eliminate small buds etc at bottom. Focus growth in canopy. Good luck and happy growing 🌱

I only defoliate when needed. During veg I'll tuck the big fan leaves underneath the branches that will eventually flower. Then when solidly in flower I will remove leaves that are shading bud sites. Then when the plant is large and has a dense canopy I will remove leaves on the bottom that are thoroughly shaded.

I pick the ones that arent helping photosynthesis anymore( the yellows at the bottom) and i pick the massive ones that are visably causin shade to budsides, sometimes that doesnt happen and i leave her in peace.

I only remove a few leaves when the girls are in stretch, to slow them a little. I choose the tuck and fold down and in instead of picking and stressing the plant. Big fan leaves produce plenty of sugars for the plant, so taking them away, takes away energy
