Simply if it takes the shape you want and especially if you see that the plant does not stress too much, in case you notice a slow growth, especially in the case of autoflowering it could lead to a poor final yield.

LST is going well if your plant is taking up a bigger even footprint in your tent. more light to all the nodes. really good advice in the other answers here as well. Best of Luck

Depends exactly what LST you’re doing .. but In the short term (first day or so) if the plant perks back up towards light and you don’t have any damage from bending.. But in the week or two following you wanna see the side branches starting to grow upwards towards the light with somewhat even spacing between all of them. You wanna see those lower branches off the main trunk growing with a bit more vigor and like they’re their own plant almost.. Also, you want to see a some what even horizontal canopy begin to develop on all those branches. That’s the main point of LST is to help achieve even light penetration and distribution across your canopy. Takes a few times of doing it to understand exactly how the plant is going to react and grow from the changes you’ve made.. but it’s not hard to get it right the first time. You can adjust on a daily basis as the plant reacts to the training..

When other branches start growing up, the goal is the fight the plant's apical dominance and cause other shoots to reach up. You keep doing this all the way through veg and early flower, the goal is a flat, even top canopy, like a table.

Well I would think if your effort is resulting in more tops, that would be the best indicator your LST was successful. If you wait until there are 5-7 nodes before you bend it over (assure the top is in fact lower then the other nodes once it has fully corrected to face the light, if not pull the top down further); you will notice each node begin developing as its own top (bud site). Continuing this training on each new top will create more yet, making the bush style plant you desire.
