What about poneytailing leaves for better sun penetration instead of trimming them ? (kinky post)

It probably exists but I've never seen it. I poneytailed leaves instead of defoliating them, since it's their ultimate food suppply. Mostly the big ones not near the buds, can I do that on the main bud leaves ? Anyone uses this technique ? Is that a bad idea ? Did I over do it ?

Bad idea my friend. There are a few reasons for defol, and not just to allow more light penetration but also to allow more air flow in and around the plants. this air flow is needed to avoid mold issues. So what you have done here is create the ideal living conditions for mold to live in-all you need to do is add a lil moisture like when the leaves sweat/perspire and you will eventually get mold in there. Plus by closing up the leaves like that your effectively blocking most of the photoreceptors in the leaves anyways so they are not going to be doing their job. How do you expect a leaf to catch the light when its tied up in a bunch? Undo it and just do a very very light defol. Only do the leaves near the middle of the plant and you be fine. look at my diary- its week 5 of flower and aside from a few odd leaves here and there i have left 95% of my leaves on so far- that will change very soon but for now im leaving them to fatten up the buds- and yesterday I snipped off a bud I thought was moldy- it looked too white to me- it was fine, just so frosty i thought it was mold. lols.

I wouldn't do this has the leaves will dye and rott then you risk the whole plant I either remove them or tuck them under buds or other leaves its your plants though but on a personal basis I just don't think its a good idea happy growing

Personally I don't see the point of this type of weird plant bondage. Far better to just let the leaves do their job of making the energy that your plant needs to grow it fastest. Any reduction in leaf surface area/coverage just reduces your plants ability to produce energy, thereby slowing growth. The cannabis plant has evolved to be at the peak of efficiency and applying questionable "bro science" in an attempt to improve on nature and thousands of years of evolution is man imposing his ego on plants just because man thinks he knows better! Also, any upside down leaves can not make any energy, light needs to strike the upper leaf surface to be able to go through the process of photosynthesis and turn into energy that powers your plants growth. When it comes to defoliation, just remember - Less leaves = less energy being made = less growth. It really is that simple! Hope this helps, Organoman.
