Wilting and yellowing leaves after vinegar water solution

Amandusstarted grow question 2 years ago
I sprayed a mixture of 1/4 spirit vinegar + 3/4 water under the leaves to get rid of aphids (which may or may not have been the problem) earlier today. Now checking on her, I see yellowing of several leaves and wilting of others, which has me worried... normal, or a problem? 😳

damn theyre burned. acetic acid in the vinegar strips waxes off the leaves and theyll dry out and die without their precious waxy skins. for future reference its always a good idea to test your diy sprays on a very limited area first and wait 24 hrs. there is nothing you can do atm and i’m sorry about that. you can spray the plant down gently to remove any remaining vinegar solution but thats about it. acetic acid is a weed killer by the way so i just wouldnt spray it on my plants if possible. the same mechanism you expected to work on aphids (stripping the waxes) sadly worked as well on your cannabis. rinse the plant down gently asap and lets see how much of it can be salvaged. sorry man been there done that, it really sucks!

diy sprays are very very tricky and i’m just gonna come out and say that dont ever do an essential oil spray for them either. i know by experience that its gonna burn your plants as well. the commercial essential oil sprays use extremely tiny amounts of the stuff to avoid burning (like 0,1-0,01%). just get some neemazal for ipm or some some insecticidal soap for a contact killer and youll be better off that way. peace!

Thanks everyone! Yeah, found the "remedy" on various websites, but -- like the newbie idiot I am -- I didn't ask here first. I don't think I'll make THIS mistake again (however there are plenty more I'm sure I will make!). 😬 Should I cut out any of the leaves in a few days' time, or leave them as is? Oh dear... wherever did you get the idea that vinegar would be good to use on plants?! I use it to kill weeds in my garden and it works a treat... But yours haven't died yet so hopefully the dose you gave wasn't enough to do that... Next time you have aphids, get yourself some Spinosad (organic) and use that... Good luck! All I can tell you is that if I don't hit my weeds with a LOT of vinegar, they'll struggle but keep right on growing so there IS hope!

Yup organoman is right. Get some organic stuff that kills them and doesn't harm your plants. I haven't had experience with them. But vin you wouldn't want on your leafs to dry off. If you have to use it dry off the leafs with some kitchen towel under and on top and quickly wipe it off. And you probably will take some off. Idk I haven't had them yet. But anything acid I know you shouldn't leave on your leaves under the light. But get yourself and organic spray or leaf was to combat them. Good luck..

Spraying your plant with vinegar will not kill aphids, but it will kill leaves!

for aphids and mites you should incorporate some safer agricultural pesticides by the way. organic and unharmful ones like neemazal will work wonders for your ipm regimen and your plants. diy always leads to hearthache is what i learned from past trauma haha

Thanks @crimsonecho - sprayed with tap water, crossed my fingers, and hope the loss isn't catastrophic.
