Solenco Mini Dehumidifier

UrbanPlannerGrower
UrbanPlannerGrowerstarted grow question 2 years ago
Hi Growers. Please can you advise if this mini dehumidifier will be sufficient to drop RH in my grow tent. I'm struggling to drop RH below 50% and I'm in flower with some huge top colas. Should I reduce light intensity?

First off - why do you need to drop your humidity below 50% ? In a tent full of flowers that number is great I wouldn't worry unless your numbers get above 65%. Next question I have is how big is your tent? cut if it's much bigger than a hamster-cage that thing isn't gonna do much to drop your RH%. I live in an area where the summer nights can be very humid and indoor grows have to be dehumidified or Botrytis becomes a serious issue. I'm happy if I can keep my daytime RH in the 50's and my nighttime RH in the 60's. Even with great ventilation, circulation and two small dehumidifiers going my 4' X 4' can climb to 72% humidity! If you're able to keep it at 50% consider yourself lucky

I've just had the chance to find and look at this particular dehumidifier and I gotta tell you, it will do nothing for you! It's meant for REALLY small spaces - like drawers!

Humidity plays a role in bud rot, for sure. But the real cause of bud rot is a certain type of mold making it into the plant from an open wound that is on the plant. Bud rot does not always affect the buds, either. It can affect stems, stalks, and leaves as well. The name of the mold is botrytis cinerea, if you want to look it up and do some research. I hope this helps. Bud rot is a scary thought.

High, The amount you water your plants each day is roughly the amount of water you’ll introduce into the air. To be safe it’s better to get one that is more powerful than you think you’ll need. So if you water 2.5 gallons (20 pints) per day in a relatively dry room, you’ll need to size up a bit and go with a 30 pint dehumidifier to be safe. If you water that same amount in a large already-damp basement, you’ll want to get a 50 pint model. Happy Growing! 😋

First, I really doubt anything called "mini" is going to help in a grow tent much and you don't give a link for us to look at this one... There ARE small dehumidifiers you can get that will help but I doubt this will do much. I don't know what size tent you have or whether you have room or if you're trying to spend the least amount of money or what - but a simple, economical way of reducing the humidity is to get yourself 2 5-gallon pots and some rock salt. You drill holes in the bottom and sides (going up about 4 inches from the bottom) of ONE of those buckets... put it in the other bucket and then dump in your rock salt. The salt will take moisture out of the air and the holes will allow that water to drain into the lower bucket which you should pour out as often as necessary (standing water will only contribute to the humidity.. Second, light intensity - reducing it will reduce your temperatures and your yield... flowers need as much light as you can give them - so the short answer is no, don't reduce it! Good luck!

isn't 50% good enough? Try searching for VDP chart and pick the right humidity.
