Actual Size of Felt Pots and Risk of Soil Overflow

I noticed that Garden High Pro 11-liter ProPot containers hold much more soil than the claimed capacity. If I fill them to the top, will I have any issues? The only thing I'm thinking is that with root growth, the soil might overflow. Does that happen?

No the soil won't overflow from root growth. If anything, the roots will grow through the fabric and out the bottom of the pots, which is also not a big concern. You aren't going to grow a big monster plant in a 3 gal pot anyways. Roots will grow and fill every conceivable space within the soil and when there is no more room they either grow through the fabric and out the bottom, or they just become root bound with nowhere to go which will then severely slow growth. A good practice is to leave a inch or 1.5 inches of room between the top of the pot and the soil line. That will allow for you to water without flowing over the sides and making a coco perlite mess on the grow space floor. Keep your plants reasonably short. I grow in 3 gal fabric pots and i flip to flower when my plants reach 12 inches. When they finish stretching they are 30 inches tall, and when i harvest and empty my soil from the pot, there is no loose soil that falls away. The entire space is one giant root ball.

I'd leave it with room at the top encase you need to add in extra medium later on. This might be needed if your using dry amendments for fertilizer as they need to be mixed into the top soil and if its to root bound to do this added a fresh 1inch on top is a great option. If you plan on using a liquid based feed then you can fill them all the way up if you want, it won't overflow like a pot of boiling pasta, the roots manage themselves in the medium quite well. Good Luck!

Forgot to add. Yes , that extra wall creates bad air movement, oscillating fan influence reduced, stems and branches weaker, plus stagnant air pockets - perfect environment for mold and diseases ...

First weed dont grow deep, root system is wide, so all canna pots ussually are wider than depth. Second. Girls too small, if top up now, some leaves can touch soil and its BAD. Third . Add no more than 1cm lair , give at least 2 weeks before adding again. I use slow release nutes, so i leave space on purpose . If its fabric pots - you can always roll them down like sock, secure with some clips if you want.

I personally don't fill them to the brim. I like to use the top seam to poke holes in to anchor tie downs. I don't think overflow would be an issue normally though....maybe in a long term situation like a mother plant. The fabric pots are supposed to help air prune roots.
