Trim Fan Leaves?

Birdgrow
Birdgrowstarted grow question a year ago
My question, autoflowers, do you remove the fan leaves from main stalk after the associated branches are growing well? I know some people say they don't trim autos, mine get way to bushy, no air flow if I don't trim them.

You're gonna get a lot of opinions on defoliation. To answer your question though, basically yeah once a branch establishes real leaves of it's own it becomes less dependent on the primary leaf that helped fuel that growth tip's initial growth. Do it on an early branch though and it will stunt it's growth. When I defol I try keep it even throughout, I don't strip anything down naked unless I'm skirting the bottom out. How you train your plants and how full your canopy is kinda dictates how aggressive you need to go. Some strains are leafier than others and handle defols better than others. I mostly hit long stems and micro-environments that are holding moisture pockets. Stacked leaves that feel kinda damp are a red flag for me. Powdery mildew loves those areas.

if you need, you clean bottoms, all depends on size, but first you always try to tuck, tie , but never take off. i did many things to autos, even transplanting in flower ;) but i always try not to harm them, bend, tuck, lst, light croping, lolip[oping, but very rare i take off top leaf. happy growing !

Ideally no, trimming a auto will stunt them while they recover but one or two leaves won't hurt, I would suggest LST if possible which will create the space ya need for airflow and allow the plant to be less stressed. Leaving as many leaves as possible as to allow the plants to uptake as much PPFD as possible.is the

Only when needed, if it blocking airflow to bud sites trim them. if not leave it. your tent floor should not have any bright light touching it. should be mostly shade to get the plant taking in the most of the light.

Do you have a reason to remove them besides "other people do it"? Just don't make it about OCD behavior if you need to decongest, just try to spread the pruning around... don't take them all from 1 branch etc...
