I have a few autos (see diaries) 17 days old. Should I top? If so, when? Thanks in advance!

The overall consensus is to not top autoflowers. High stress training is not reccomended due to the very short window of vegetative stage. You want to push as much growth as you can. Topping is a way to limit growth and direct energy to lower branches which is not needed for autoflowers. Your best bet is to start LST (Low Stress Training) your plant. Do this by pulling down the top of the plant enough to even put the canopy. This will allow the lower branches more light and you will have many main colas growing. It’s a very good way to increase your yield. During week 3-4 on my autos, I’m constantly pulling down my plant and branches to keep an even canopy and it looks like I’ll have about a dozen main branches on each autoflower. I hope this helps.

If you want more uniform growth, I recommend topping between the fourth and sixth set of leaves. This will give you more big buds because all the shoots get the same amount of light, if you don't top you will get a big headbud and lots of sad side shoots. Either way, the yield will probably be similar.

Autos and topping is generally a no-no......their veg period is so short, any setbacks can affect yields drastically. Training is far better than topping in my opinion.

if you want to use topping and training etc its usually done after the 5th set of leaves have developed then carefully pinch out the new growth at the top

Saludos.

Considering she's just 17 days old and already showing some good growth, you might want to hold off on topping her. Autos tend to have a shorter vegetative phase, and topping could slow down her growth or even stress her out. Instead, I'd recommend sticking with low-stress training (LST) techniques to help manage her canopy and encourage lateral growth. Happy growing🌿🌟
