hi there community👋 I've recently been exposed to bacterial issues in my fertigation nute reservoir. I got suggested to put a UVC aquarium light in my res. to destroye the germs. NOW: would it hurt my organic nutes from CANNA TERRA? what u think?

Not all UV is equal, 222nm, Dont just accept any UVC make sure to find out as only 207-222nm has the frequency possibly to do what your asking. 222nm UVC is like pH 6.5, the " sweet spot" for germicidal/bacterial action. It has garnered a lot of interest in recent years because its very specific frequency is able to destroy bacteria and germs but leave anything bigger/smaller unaffected. When combined, UV light and hydrogen peroxide break down organic chemicals in water. A UV/H2O system uses UV light and hydrogen peroxide to disinfect microorganisms and destroy organic compounds, leaving mammalian skin undamaged. Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) consists of a relatively weak O−O bond, which is susceptible for light or heat. In the presence of light (the UV light catalyzes the reaction), H2O2 will spontaneously decompose into water and oxygen. 222nm on its own might do the trick but I'm not 100%

it'll kill microbes good and bad, but whether it breaksdown the nutrient molecules is a question for someone with a phd in chemistry, lol. Clean your rez more often, chief. that's the cause. Keep it cool and dark. Top it off more frequently to keep a higher portion of fresh water in the tank. how quickly you draw it down will impact how long you can go without cleaning. Early on you may have to clean a reservoir every week or so. Once i'm fertigating daily and using 75% of it in 3-4 days, I'm constantly refilling 75% fresh water, so it can go well over a month before i see or smell any hint of trouble. The dynamics of use will dictate how often you have to clean it. Cold temps and darkness will help greatly. If you cannnt keep it cool and dark your are going to constantly have problems.

Not all organic food is sutable to keep in a reservoir.I would of thought Canna would be OK but I'd check if you haven't.If money isnt an issue I'd use Advanced Nutrients Iguana Juice.I can't see why UV would hurt your nutes as they don't have anything living in them do they?No microbes, bacteria?Canna have a good site, check but I can't recommend Iguana juice enough, the ingrediants far supirior to anything else out there.Made for growers like us.Developed on our plants.Their site is full of info.

Yes. If you have high water issues. Use hydrozym or other DWC. Or switch to a sterile setup synthetic nutrients.
