Top early, break apical dominance, increase transpiration for first 3 weeks to encourage stretching. Let the plant fill the space. Once apical dominance is broken the plant will grow like a candelabra rather than a evergreen tree. 🌲 For a better concept go check my latest diary. 4 autos in 4x4, good yield.
How much and what.ypu can do is greatly restricted by how much time you have, autos are not forgiving to hit or Scrogg. If you have a photoperiod then you can take as long as you wish within reason.
20 or so primary colas. Space them out evenly. 25 might be conenient (5x5 is symmetrical, but might have some slight overcrowding.)
Decide on how many, work backward from there as far as training/topping to get there efficiently. Let it all grow vertical once in position. easy peasy. Four plants? ~6 colas each and a lot less vege time rquired than 1 plant filling the space
I like 3 colas per sq ft. If you know it's a lanky bitch with buds that aren't substatial, make a denser canopy can help yield, but more times than not it just makes for same yield and smaller buds with more leaf.
With those big leafes I would recommend topping/fiming (maybe several times). Also try to cut the big leafes above the next side stem (so the node below gets more light).
Expose new branches to light, tuck leaves under daily and try to create healthy wide plant, start looks nice !
Not a big fan of scrogs, but my last two indoors grows were with this technique, it works, no doubts.
